Bran was hands down the biggest waste of screen time in the show.  Aside from verifying that Littlefinger was, in fact, bad, Bran's powers amount to nothing.  Furthermore, we got no context as to why the Night King cares about him in particular.  We get no exploration of any number of mysteries about the history of Westeros through his flashbacks.  And we don't get the obvious fact pointed out that any number of people would be ready to put a dagger thru Bran's heart for allowing the events of episode 5 to occur without trying to intervene.  The idea that anyone would accept him as king knowing that he exhibits no care at all for the responsibility his powers incur is beyond the pale of suspension of disbelief.

Dude, Bran was the evil puppetmaster this whole time. He used his little sis like a tool to engineer the defeat of the  Night King---the one being that could stop him. Then he played Dany into obliterating King's Landing and played john into killing Dany, removing all threats to his taking the the throne. He pacified his other sis by lettering her pretend at being "queen of the north." Of course he was ready to take the throne at the end. He planned it all along.  Evil Bran 4 lyfe.

    My final take on Got:

Some stories are about a character's journey with the destination being an afterthought. Some stories are all about the destination, with the journey being more a means to an end. This was something else... it was the story of an entire world: it's ebbs and flows and the interactions between the people and places and powers within it. It has always been much bigger than once place or one character. Finding a suitable end to all that is impossible (destruction of the entire world notwithstanding). The best the series could do was leave us in a place where we felt somewhat at peace that things would be ok for a while, that most of the turmoil we've witnesses had drawn to a close, so that we would accept not being able to see anymore of this world's story. I think the show accomplished at least that goal. I was mostly satisfied with state of things at the end.

That being said, I agree with many that these last few seasons, and this one especially, sacrificed too much to get us to that ending. The crux of this series has always been the world, and its places and characters and magic, and the interactions between them all. Glossing over large chunks of that to get us to a satisfying ending ignores what this series has always been about. This season played like a Cliffs Notes version of the story that actually took place to get us there. Personally, it was disappointing, but I really don't get the hate---all the people are saying they wish they'd never watched it, or wasted their lives, etc. The ride was great up until this point, in its a shame the climax was given such poor treatment, but I still enjoyed the series immensely as whole.

    TL;DR:

D&D write way worst than GRRM.

You think? Benioff had a couple successes a screenwriter prior to this. Weiss was a nobody.

GRRM's first story published almost 50 years ago. He won his first Hugo award in 1975. Dude had written a couple dozen books and stories, several award-winning, prior to publishing GoT in '96.

Experience makes a difference. Sure, sometimes you roll the dice on fresh talent and win, but on a show of this magnitude, HBO should have found someone better, a known quantity. Maybe they didn't think it would get this big, and when it did, they attributed too much to D&D over the source material.

If I were Disney, today would pull the plug on D&D for the next Star Wars movies. Deserved or not, why would you want to the most hated writers in Hollywood to take the reigns on one of your key franchises?

And now I wait for His Dark Materials, a book series I've actually read. I can be one of those "but the books!" people for once lel

I'll comment on the finale in a sec, but I had to second this first. Cannot wait for this! The movie was SO bad: Sanitized all the subtext that made the books interesting and compelling; Cutoff the extremely shocking climax. Would be like ending season 1 GoT without Ned dying.

Based on the trailer, this looks amazing and I can't wait. Plus, everything Lin-Manuel Miranda touches right now is gold. Let's hope they get Kingkiller done before his star fades.

    2) Message turns out to be shit..Don't care if it is fantasy, action, thriller, german bdsm porn, a message must exist..Right now the only message this show sends is "you cannot escape your past" and thats a shitty message to send.. Seriously, her father was mad so she has to be mad, just lazy, lame and cliché..

This is the part that personally bothers me the most: the nihilist message we're being given. Maybe people (like myself) shouldn't have expected a happy ending, and maybe this was GRRM's ultimate point all along, but I really did not need 8+ years of story to end with "nothing matters, you can't escape your past or overcome your deficiencies, everyone is fucked." Real life is cynical enough as it is.

I'll paraphrase an article I read: "the showrunners said that this final season would be 'bittersweet', but they pushed too much 'bitter' and not enough 'sweet'."

To me, one thing that could really make this ending is Queen Sansa. For all the lack of growth/reversion we've seen (Jamie, Brienne, Dany, Cersi), Sansa going from being the dumbest Stark and dumbest main character in the first few seasons, to becoming the most cunning and prescient character(super-saiyan Bran not included) has been a real bright spot (your "sweet" so to speak"). After all the horror she's endured, seeing her end up on top would be nice. It would also pacify all those saying that show treats women poorly after Dany became a crazy-pants that's surely going to die. Though I can't imagine the books ending with Queen Sansa, her character in the books is dumb beyond repair.

At the very least, there should be some surprise ending rather than "the heroic and good male chosen one becomes the king."  He's acts just like Ned and Robb Stark, but I bet he won't suffer their fates.

We all know that he's going to kill Danearys and become king, although he'll feel very bad about it, I'm sure.  A very bad ending to a story that was supposedly about upending the conventions of fantasy.

I don't think so. I think he'll kill Dany (his Queen) and then take the black rather than become king.

Upon reaching the end of the show and finding that it was not as expected, the posters here have decided to go nuclear on the show destroy it completely.

    Now it all makes sense.

congratz, after failing to make a coherent argument you basically throw it all away and go "nu-uh you're stupid"

I guess we finally found the target demographic of people literally incapable of understanding the process of writing and therefore will eat up any dog turd fed to them

It was supposed to be joke...

I never said the writing was great. Its been sub par since benioff and weiss passed the source material, and worse the last couple seasons when they tried to cram too much into too few episodes. I just think all the Dany hate/shock is unjustified given all the telegraphing over the past 8 seasons of show and in the books. Could the lead-up have been handled better? Sure. Was it so bad enough to justify the Internets losing their collective shit? No.

It was really an enjoyable episode for me. The sub par writing was far outweighed by great acting, amazing visuals, a good general story line.

It is actually your fault. That is a connection problem, happens to me every once in a blue moon, but it does happen and it is because of connection issues.

If you make a mobile app, you need account for connection issues. The problem is that the app often fails to recognize a connection issue properly. Instead it lets you play like there's no problem. After you're opponent does not play for a while, or you realize its been a while and there should have been a rope by now, it's too late. You hard-exit the app, wait 2 minutes for it to reload and rejoin your game and by then your opponent has had 2-3 turns and its over.

posted a message on The RoS adventure is far worse value than buying packs

It's worth it if you use cash rather than in-game gold. 16 packs (including 1 golden) + additional content for $20 is a solid deal compared to most bundles.

It's not worth it to use in-game gold. This has always been the case with adventures back to the old days because Blizzard does not profit off in-game gold. They are encouraging you to spend real money, and by choosing not to spend real money, you get a much worse deal.

I don't see why people are so obsessed with protecting Dany's image. She's always been a trigger-happy lunatic hell-bent on conquering westeros, and only held in check by her advisers.

First of all, she absolutely did not sacrifice her child willingly.  And I'm not counting threats; that can be posturing.

     Oh really?

“You warned me that only death could pay for life. I thought you meant the horse.”

“No,” Mirri Maz Duur said. “That was a lie you told yourself. You knew the price.”

Had she? Had she? If I look back I am lost. “The price was paid,” Dany said. “The horse, my child, Quaro and Qotho, Haggo and Cohollo. The price was paid and paid and paid.” She rose from her cushions. “Where is Khal Drogo? Show him to me, godswife, maegi, bloodmage, whatever you are. Show me Khal Drogo. Show me what I bought with my son’s life.”

Except Dany would never do this, and was done for the sake of the plot and to be "shocking".

Let's take a look at what Dany has done throughout the show, shall we?

    • Dany threatens to cut off her brother's hands if he hits her again
    • Dany watches without emotion as her older brother (heir to the throne over her) is melted to death by her husband
    • Knowing that the death of her Kahl husband will mean the end of her and her army, Dany sacrifices her unborn child to a witch in a misguided attempt to save him
    • Thinking all is lost, Dany burns the witch, her semi-dead husband and herself alive, only to survive and get dragons, because magic
    • Dany threatens to raze Qarth when they don't let her in
    • Dany has her Dragons incinerate the Warlock Pyat Pree
    • Dany locks Xaro in his vault to die of starvation
    • Dany burns the slavemasters of Astapor and steals their army of unsullied
    • Dany orders the unsullied to sack astapor and leaves the city ungoverned and in shambles to march to Yunkai
    • Dany sacks the city of Yunkai and leaves the city ungoverned and in shambles to march to Mareen
    • Dany instigates a slave revolt to take Mareen, then crucifies 163 nobles from that city
    • Dany has a great master burned alive and eaten by her dragons as reprisal for Ser Barriston's death
    • Dany gathers all the Dothraki leaders together and burns them alive
    • Dany declares her intent to "return their [slaver's bay] cities to the dirt," but is persuaded to by Tyrion not to do it
    • Dany burns the entire slavemaster's armada (what about the innocents?!)
    • Dany burns the Tarlys for not bending the knee

Yes. Dany is was a totally kind a delightful ruler up until season 8 episode 5. If anything is clear, its that the only thing holding her back the entire time from not doing this earlier were here trusted advisers, who are now all dead or untrusted

There was no prior event from Daenerys that precipitated changing the targets of her ire from her enemies to innocents AND there was no trauma she experienced in the moment that properly sets up the "she just snapped" defense.  Furthermore, the setup was so easy to make that trauma happen (as I illustrated in my long post on this page), a conscientious fan could have a lot of trouble not looking on this episode as a disappointment, regardless of the eye candy or the end result.

I think you missed my post and the vary blunt explanation given in the show itself, which is that she didn't snap. She made a calculated judgment. Before (in easteros) she did not need to slaughter the innocents because they welcomed and loved her. As she expressly stated several times in this episode and before, she had no love in westeros. Her only option was to rule by fear, so that's what she was trying to accomplish by razing the city. She's not mad. She's always been narcissistic, only before she could do it while making herself feel good about freeing slaves, and now she can't
