Time for a new batch... Starting with a very slow anti-tempo card.

Thanks for the feedback! I agree with you on some points. I am not a Johnny, but a Spike. Therefore I dislike the assessment on pure viability on ladder and appreciate other aspects such as innovativeness and new mechanics much more. This is not meant as defending my cards, but an explanation why some of the cards might appear too weak at first glance.

Time Out: This is not meant as a soft lock like Rat Trap, but a combo hoser. Especially Star Aligner and Malygos Druid have some difficulties to meet that condition before going off.

Sleight of Hand: You are right! Mana cost should be 3 at least. I am not sure if it is possible to balance this card at all.

Illiterate Goblin: It is a weak card. I like that. Not every card needs to be crazy. This is at best a mid-level arena card. Nothing wrong with that.

Storm Caller: Yes it is a reprint on a body. This was done by Blizzard several times already, sometimes a body is just what's missing to make an effect playable. But you are right, nothing out of the box here.

Bloodthirsty Brawler: Normally it is 3 mana draw 2. This card needs some setup to make it work and therefore I believe the discount is justified. You can also check for Snipe or Explosive Runes with this card.

Zola's Stare: For balancing I had Vaporize in mind (which btw never saw any play). If you compare the two cards, the cost is  reasonable. Your opponent can make the decision which minion to test it with, when to overload you and also gets a Frog. I disagree with it being too strong.
Once again, thanks for sharing your opinion. You have very valid points (especially the more competitive nature of cards), that I do not fully consider while making cards. Maybe this was the igniting spark for a fruitful discussion :)

posted a message on Weekly Card Design Competition - Season 8 Feedback

I know this would be a lot of effort, but the fairest and most balanced way (imho) to do a competition would be as follows:

First stage: An anonymous and randomized "swipe left/swipe right" selection stage. If you swipe right, the card gets a point, if you swipe left, the card does not get a point (you could limit it to 5 votes per person). Later entries could get more "screen-time", which means they are shown more often so that all cards have been show rather equally in the end.

Second stage: Similar to the current setup. The top *whatever number* will make it to the finals. We get to vote and a couple days later: taadaahhh we got a winner!

Simple, elegant and I don't know how to program it...

Easy there champ. Take a few steps back and reflect on your approach. Is it new, different and innovative? I have seen many cards like yours before, so what exactly makes your approach stand out? What is the benefit of using your approach instead of the established one? So far your cards have a low effort meme look and feel.

If you submit your cards to us forum users, who have a certain aesthetic standard, you got to expect some backfire. Rather than pitying yourself as the misunderstood genius, make yourself understood. Show us what your style is and why it is beautiful, fresh and cool. I don't think anyone is opposed to that.

posted a message on WCDC Season 8 Finale - Mini Comp #5 (Final Poll)

Well you gotta admit that it is a rather closed circle and it is difficult to get in. The moderators are pushing - in my opinion - a very similar design style and it is not easy to enter the fan creations forum and stay. E.g. I put up a thread with custom cards asking for feedback and did not receive a single response! How is that fun and inclusive? How are interested members supposed to get better?

I see the main flaw in the competitions: the page system, calculation who makes it into the finals etc. should be fundamentally reworked! Also in the discussion thread, I sometimes get this circlejerk feeling. People who bounce ideas back and forth and end up voting for each other, while ignoring other users.

Tbh I am a bit annoyed... I got my WCDC frame, so I don't care, but it gets harder to enter these competitions as an outsider

posted a message on WCDC Season 8 Finale - Mini Comp #5 (Final Poll)

@Long_John_Silver: I feel you. When I first started making cards and posting them here, I thought making things differently would be appreciated. For example I like cards that are not good at first glance, have a downside or are in general not easily predictable without thinking about them. In the end, the community is rather closed and conservative. Therefore my personally preferred cards will never win, but a lot of Timmy designs win. That's just the (boring) reality I had to accept.

I partly agree with you concerning the mini competitions. On the one hand, if it wasn't for you, there basically wouldn't be any proper finals. On the other hand, your card looks like it was made with a potato. It just wasn't aesthetically appealing. I thought about voting for your card, but didn't because of this simple reason. There is a difference between making things differently or making them better. Take at it as a learning experience and keep on testing the waters. Find out what resonates better with the community. Keep on making cards, you got some raw talent!

Would this be allowed, as it is a kobold statue? Also, is the rekindle thing understandable? It means revive but is a bit more flavorful I think...

So close, missed 1 vote for the finals xD

In all seriousness, it's a shame these fun competitions get so little attention...
