EulersApprentice posted a message on Duels NerfsPosted in: DuelsSo, some duels nerfs were announced. Here are my thoughts.
- Ace in the Hole to 3 mana: Fair enough. Quest Rogue can make this card more than a little too good.
- Connections to 1 mana: Makes sense. I'm still a little sad though, because I had a Malygos version of Connections Rogue that I was having a lot of fun with, and it's probably gonna get killed by this change. Ah well.
- Rally the Troops to discount (3) instead of (5): This treasure really needed a nerf; its power relative to other pool 2 passive treasures was just ridiculous. It's far from unheard of with this treasure to play a five drop on turn 1. Even discounting (3) I personally wonder if it's still too good, though... compared to, say, Emerald Goggles, Rally will usually cheat more mana, and unlike Goggles, Rally also draws you a bunch of cards, making it much easier to abuse the mana cheating.
And here are my thoughts about what they DIDN'T nerf...
- Humble Blessings: *Deep breath* This card. Prior to the release of Forged in the Barrens, this treasure made sense to have at three mana. You could craft your whole deck around it, but that wouldn't get you too far since you can't count on drawing it. Your greed had to be kept in check by making your deck at least playable on its own merits to cover you not drawing the treasure. Then Knight of Anointment happened, and all that went right out the window, and suddenly you can get away with building your entire deck out of cards that it breaks, like Onyxia and Onyxia the Broodmother. Humble Blessings desperately needs to go back up to 4 or 5 mana. (I guess in the alternative they could ban Knight of Anointment, but I would rather the deck's weakness be "finding time to play Humble Blessings" instead of "being lucky enough to draw Humble Blessings". That just makes for a better play experience for everyone involved.)

Sorry OP is right. Mind tether is 100% cancer and remains so after duels/Stormwind update. There is virtually no hard counter to it for most decks (Rancor ... maybe), and you can't really tech for it in duels. If they get fireshaper they can do 20+ damage in one turn (Easily) by turn 3 or 4. Shadow word void isn't even the biggest problem. It's the ability to discover multiple times per turn and just put out face with their hero power. And basically everything past round 5 in duels is either elemental shaman or mind tether priest. The power level is absolutely stupid.
Update: it's even worse now. with the all spells + fireshaper passive just had a mind tether priest put out 28 damage just with their hero power on turn 3 in a match. GG.

Yep. Good. Finally a good rush warrior deck. So far no issues with the decklist - Cult Master really is amazing. Was able to beat a Duel! pally by drawing nearly my entire deck in one turn with ETC/small rush minions. Trying to climb D4-legend with anything not rogue and this is fun. Hope to see a more detailed guide if you get the chance!
Edit: a guide would be nice, won 5 in a row then lost 8 straight. Even with decent mulligans.

Legend must be way different from D5 because I'm struggling to find a good matchup other than aggro (if you outlast hunter, aggro dh or stealth rogue's initial burst damage they have no answers). Vs tempo or control I'm getting demolished, just had a highlander mage devolve, sheep and zephrys hex my first 4 minions and gg.

Hah this deck is not for the faint of heart, took me a few matches to figure it out, loving it.
Going to probably replace something with Ancharr though.

Not remotely true. In many cases I was able to ramp to 10 mana by turn 5 and overwhelm the board. Lunar eclipse is a great removal card (deals with phase hunter, etc.). You can get anubisath, overflow, and umbral owl out so early in the game you can stall long enough to drop a board of 8/8 clowns or a double cenarion ward (16 armor and 2 big minions) turn 6 or 7. I took this deck from D10-D5 with 3 losses. I was skeptical to start but seriously this just wins.
My worst loss was to tickatus warlock who milled me 20 cards and fatigued me in 2 turns, I think that is going to be a very good deck and you can't really do much to stop it, it is the best counter to this deck because of overflow.

This is actually a good deck without the combo. I've yet to pull it off but still winng 80%ish.

Really good deck. Really good. Beating demon hunter and face hunter decks in diamond 5+ ranks is tough. My losses so far have mostly been due to misplays or just learning the deck. Bravo!

so exactly what is the win condition when facing another rogue? you have literally no way to empower your cutlass...

Anyone criticizing the deck isn't playing it correctly. I'm 11-2 and blazing through diamond easily (should hit legend tonight). My only losses were to super aggro discard warlock where I was outraced way too early and pirate warrior (same deal). Against anything tempo or control this deck should win almost always. Thanks for the great deck!

Ended up with a dead hand several times, one game I stalled 7 turns in a row with nothing playable to go on offense. I feel like sphere of sapience is almost necessary because if you don't get a draw engine in your mulligan there is no way to generate your combos.
