Really not sure which flavor is THE FLAVOR this week. Here are three iterations on my design and I tried to keep them comparatively unique. If you don't mind, I'd really appreciate any feedback. I believe all three meet the requirements for this week's challenge but if not please let me know so I can make changes.

I don't feel like making a joke for this card so just read the flavor text for another card and pretend its for this one.

    • Unlike Faceless Manipulator, Faceless Spawn can not be played without another minion being present on the board.

It works a lot like Tracking. When you play it, all of the Secrets and weapons in both decks will be laid out on the screen for you to look at (you'll only see one copy of each, even if there are more copies in the deck). If you activate the Combo, you can then select one to gain a copy of. I decided to word it as "Look at" instead of "Reveal" to make it more consistent with Tracking, for which your opponent does not get to see the cards like they do with jousts. This was originally just a 2-cost card without Combo, but I felt that wasn't quite practical realistically. Still, a tutor-like effect like this that also gives you potential information on your opponent's deck is too good to be a simple 1-cost card, despite drawing one card normally being costed at 1-mana. I think making the second part a Combo effect makes it about balanced.

I think this card is too powerful for its cost. It is balanced by focusing on a subset of cards but unbalanced by scrying both decks. For a low curve aggro oriented rogue deck this card can be used to aggressively stay on curve by copying one of your own weapons. I think this card as it is, should at least be costed at 2 mana making it a little harder to proc the combo.

The only other thing that bothers me is that there is no cap for how many cards Espionage can pull. The value of this card changes immensely when you are looking at lets say 5+ cards because the chances of drawing a solution to any given situation is greater with more choices.

As your card is now, it has a great flavor and I feel that it fits the Rogue aesthetic well. Just know that all my thoughts come with a grain of salt.

I see what you're saying, and I definitely realize that in some situations this card would get absurdly good value... But that's only in some situations. There are three classes (Druid, Priest, and Warlock) that have no Secrets or weapons.

Now consider that, if you're running this card, you probably want there to be at least one weapon in your own deck that you can pull to prevent its effect from being useless in a whole third of the possible match-ups. Only now that you have at least your favorite Rogue weapon in your deck, the card is also a lot less useful against other Rogues (in terms of the new options it can afford you). Now factor in that Rogue weapons themselves tend to be rather meh, which is why so few people run any of them, so really what you're hoping to do with this is take something more useful from your opponent, especially since this only copies a card even from your own deck so it doesn't help thin your deck at all.

Only some variations of Shaman run weapons, so that leaves only 4 classes that this is actually consistently good against: Hunter, Paladin, Mage, and Warrior. When you start looking at the bigger picture like that, it becomes more clear how, even though Espionage can be really awesome in some match-ups, it's underwhelming in others. It's situational, similar to Kezan Mystic and other tech cards in that regard, that are allowed to be crazy awesome sometimes because of how bad they can be other times.

That's how I've been thinking about it anyway. Does that make sense or have I missed something that leaves you unconvinced? =)

My only remaining concern is the number of cards you can choose from. My feeling is that choosing between a hunter's or a mage's entire arsenal makes this card insane and the potential to play a card on the turn it is copied makes this card hella potent. But you are right, I think it is a powerful card when it come up against a complementary match up and that its value decreases when going up against non-weapon non-secret classes I just personally believe that shouldn't be worth what I think is a 2 mana value combo reward.

All in all, I think it's worth the 1 mana in any match up even if you have to pull one of your own cards. And I could see this card boosting more archetypes for Rogue which I guess is the healthiest part of this card! But I am going to stand strong on thinking there needs to be a card pool limit.

I like the concept of this card, but I think it might be a little too focused. I think in the highly possible match up where your opponent has no legendary minion all this card say to me is give your opponent a legendary card for 5 mana. Same thing goes if they have 1 or 2 legendary minions in their deck and both are in their hand, 5 mana here's a legendary.

And I know that all sounds harsh but I really like the idea of swapping cards with your opponent. I just feel that if there isn't a switch 99 times out of 100 then your losing all the spice from your cards affect.

Here are some suggestions for thinking about switching cards with your opponent.

    • 3 mana: Select a card, put it in your opponent's hand and draw a random card from their deck.
    • 3 mana: Discard a card from your hand and take a random card from your opponents hand.
    • 3 mana: Take the next card your opponent draws, it costs (1) more.

Keeping working at it and this card has a really good chance of being a strong contender this week!

I think this card is ridiculous in all the best ways, I think as it is now you can submit it but here are some ideas if you are still unsure.

4 mana deal 5 damage is mediocre for most classes but good value for paladin, and arguably that damage becomes worse when you consider that it is attached to your face.

That being said is that the upside of this card is drawing a silenced battlecry demon. Summoning a clean safe wholesome bubbly Pit Lord, Doomguard or Felguard sounds fantastic to me, yes please. This ability as a spell could easily be worth 3 mana on its own.

But if you want to make changes you could raise the cost of the weapon to 6 or 7 and summon the demon to the field, no battlecries to worry about! You could lower the attack and raise the durability delaying the activation of the ability. Or make the ability a battlecry that silences all demons you draw.

All in it is already a great card, I can't wait to vote for it!

The last owner of the Monkey's Paw died on this day 10 years ago! Spooky coincidence huh?

Despite the weapon's 0 attack, there are several ways to proc Monkey's Paw's deathrattle.

posted a message on Let's get INSPIRED by Rogue

Forsaken Alchemist is a crazy card, why wait for Tinkers when you could just make your own Oil? Its a very flexible that I could see in a lot of different decks and the benefits to the late game where you could just hoard poisons for a finisher matches the Rogue aesthetic well!

Defias Thug is a super solid one drop in the early game but crazy late game as it could be a combo starter for a double tinkers meaning you could use three cards to deal 14 damage (16 if you use two deadly poisons!) Its arguably balanced for the current meta and would easily slot into any Oil Rogue Deck.

I tried to create a card fitting with both Mill Rogue and the new TGT Identity Crisis Rogue. Its balanced by it discard mechanic and its inflexibility (this isn't your every day rogue card. I doubt it would even fit into Pirate Rogue.) Let me know what you think!
