posted a message on Hearthstone Tavern Talk: Bringing Back Heroes, Balance Frequency, Community Card Art

The concerns related to frequent balance changes seem like strawman arguments:

    1) Nobody is asking for unannounced balance changes.  In fact, no game does unannounced balance changes.  So there is no fear of "craft today gone tomorrow".  There is no danger of trusting the game if you publish a schedule and stick to it.

    2) Nobody is asking for weekly changes.  But one revision per set (4 months) is kind of ridiculous.  To compare, Shadowverse has a major client release about once a month and includes balance changes there; that seems reasonable so every season feels different from the season before.

posted a message on How are you Priest players doing?

Been playing Kibler's Quest Priest, it's pretty good and a lot of fun if you like long interactive games.  Be aware though that the mirror almost always goes to a forced draw (if you take too many turns the game ends in a draw).  Otherwise I've been having success with it, losing mostly to Aggro Mage and losing to my own deck not feeding me deathrattle cards.

The change to Rogue quest might actually turn out to be a buff.  It makes Sonya Shadowdancer way better against Sleepy Dragon, Primordial Drake, Carnivorous Cube, Rotten Applebaum, etc.

posted a message on Dean Ayala on Shudderwock: Revisiting the Topic Early Next Week

Shudderwock is fine, it just suffers from the same problem as all the similar effects before it (Nozdormu, C'Thun, Yogg, etc) in that the animation could be done better.  A solution could just be to add an option to disable animations in the client so you don't have to sit through it and can just skip right to the end; if one player has animations enabled and the other doesn't, veto power goes to nonactive player.  Another option I heard about would be to just animate the battlecries that actually do something rather than a million Murmuring Elementals and Flame Kin Harbingers that are all redundant.

As far as the deck power level goes though, the deck is fine, not even one of the top 3 decks.  Paladin needs a serious nerf; requiring a full board sweeper every turn of the game starting on turn 2-3 is not reasonable especially for classes that don't even have access to those effects, specifically Druid and Hunter.

posted a message on Let's talk about Tempo/Secret/Burn Mage

    Quote from jeepers1704 >>

Oh good, another "I can't beat a deck and here's why it's bad design/not my fault" post.

Just play some dude paladin, you'll be fine.

This is basically the problem with Hearthstone.  There are only 4 classes right now: Mage, Paladin, Priest, and Warlock.  The other 5 classes are basically dead, and when someone comes in and brings attention to that fact, the answer is "well, play one of the good classes instead".
First of all, some of us (including myself) are free to play and don't have hundreds of dollars to drop on what is essentially numbers on a server we have no control over, that can crash or go down (or we can be banned for any reason and lose everything!), and that doesn't spur confidence.  It's kind of hard when you're free to play and you put a lot of investment into a deck and then are told "sorry that deck you just put months of work into, that deck is shit try again next time".
Secondly, the promise of 9 classes is that they should all be relatively balanced.  I mean sure, 9 classes is a bit hard to all balance at the same time, but is it too much to ask for 50% of those classes to have a tier 1 deck?  Heck, look at the recent HCT results; Shaman and Druid didn't even show up AT ALL, and Warrior showed up very sparingly.  That's not a healthy metagame, when 55% of class cards are functionally banned.
Also, the fact that Dude Paladin is more broken than Secret Mage doesntd help; that's how you get power creep.  When you say X broken thing is fine because Y thing is more broken, then that just encourages more and more broken things; Y thing is ok because Z is more broken, and so on.  The thing is, power creep of threats in HS is out of control, and either it needs to be toned down or answers need to become more powerful.  Yes yes "Voidlord lol", but that's a turn 6 play at the earliest (5 with Coin), and the aggro decks can just kill you by then.  Or Silence the Voidlord.  Or burn your face through it.  Or sometimes you don't have the nuts and you don't have Voidlord on 6 and you die anyway.  As good as Voidlord is, it's not the answer.
    - Explosive Runes needs to be nerfed
    - Call to Arms needs to be nerfed
    - Voidlord (or Possessed Lackey) needs to be nerfed
    - Drakonid Operative needs to be nerfed (well, it would if it wasn't rotating in 2 weeks)
Then let's see what balanced metagames look like.
