I don't see the value in adding electronic strategy games to a sports festival. Yes, they require skill but no, it is not the same thing. People have the perception that many of these sports don't require thought, which is far-removed from the truth as even a stereotypical meathead sport like American football is actually highly tactical and requires strict IQ tests be put on prospective players. This means that physical sports require intelligence, creativity and strategy -- just like eSports -- but ALSO peak physical fitness.
I think eSports have value, but they're nowhere near the same thing and don't belong in the same events. Even action games like shooters require only reaction time... not actual fitness.
I feel the same about chess being in the Olympics. A better solution would simply be to create an equivalent event for video-, computer- and board games.
I agree. They tried to have an esports olympics, it was World Cyber Gaming (WCG). But it turned out to be south Koreans owning the rest of the world. Eventually it didn't make enough money and esports turned home to south Korea. MLG doesn't have the feel of olympics, it feels more like the NBA.
I would prefer a seperate esports olympics, that happened online 2 weeks after the olympics.

Hit a guy, heal a guy, draw a guy, play a guy. The Dream
I would do it every 4 years not in the same year as the summer or winter olympics. Or if it is not profitable enough, then attach it to the end of the winter olympics. Winter olympics feels like it only has half of the events compared to the summer olympics.
It's as much of a joke as the Olympics is. So maybe it would fit right in. They would probably even allow pro players to compete just like the other sports in corrupt Olympics.
