Eventually Blizzard are going to add new classes to Hearthstone. It is Heroes of Warcraft and Hearthstone is missing both the Death Knight and the Monk. When they add these new classes is the question. According to Hamilton Chu, Hearthstone's executive producer, the Death Knight and the Monk are not currently being worked on.
Of course, that doesn't stop us from thinking about it.
FonteTavina, over at Hearthpwn, has done just that. He put together a complete Death Knight class, complete with hero power, minions, spells and weapons. It's really quite brilliant. With the exception of a couple of cards (Obliterate, for example) it seems quite balanced.
My issue with FonteTavina's work is that he created a Death Knight of the Frost specialization, with Arthas Menethil as the hero. Which is all well and good, except that we already have a class that deals a lot of freezing/frost damage — the Mage. My thinking is that if we're going to see the Death Knight come to fruition, it would be much cooler to have a whole new damage mechanic introduced into the game.
Disease. Damage over time. Build an Unholy Death Knight. Now I've not done the loads of good work that FonteTavina has done. As you can see above, I've only assigned the hero and the hero power. Cast disease on an enemy minion.
That, of course, begs the question, "What is a disease?"
Any minion that has disease cast upon it will take one point of damage at the start of the caster's turn. The damage effect will last until the disease is removed or the minion dies. Simple as that.
Would that be overpowered? I'm not sure. It would depend on the how easily disease could be removed. Silence of course would be one method. Disease, after all, is simply text added to a minion, and silence removes all active text. I would think there should also be cure cards, either as spells or the battlecry of other minions. A cure would remove only disease text.
Can disease be stacked? I'm thinking yes. Cast disease twice on the same minion, then it takes two points of damage per turn.
I think disease by the mechanic you have just told might be too slow. If your AOE takes a whole turn to come into effect is it really that dangerous ? the opponent gets one more swing with all his minions?!? The other player could simply trade them away preventing the mechanic from really working. I feel that the damage needs to be at least semi instant at the end of your turn ? However this then makes the hero power more powerful than Mage by far.

The other player could simply trade them away preventing the mechanic from really working. I feel that the damage needs to be at least semi instant at the end of your turn ?
