Worked up to enough gold to play an arena tonight. Not my first, but I hadn't done one in about 3-4 days, so I was looking forward to doing it again. Picked a paladin, because I love playing them and they can be very good. Put together a really nice deck. 2 Equality, 3 Truesilver Champion, 2 Sunwalker, a smattering of silence effects, some taunts. To say the least, I thought it looked fine. I'd definitely get a few wins, at least.
Fast forward three losses later.
First game, I curved out perfectly, had this rogue on the defense all the way down to her having 2 health. Then she plays an Alexstrasza to put herself up to 15 health, and a Sunfury Protector to give her taunt. I lose 2 turns later.
Second game, I play against a warlock that plays 4 Blood Imps and a Sen'jin Shieldmasta, while drawing cards with Life Tap like mad. I use pretty much all of my resources keeping his board clear until I can get him down to nothing but 2 Imps and 6 health. Then he plays Lord Jaraxxus. I lose 3 turns later.
Third game, my mage opponent plays a turn 2 Bloodmage Thalnos and uses the spellpower to keep my board cleared for a while. On turn 5 she plays a Sylvanas Windrunner. Ouch. I manage to dance around her and wind up giving her an Ironfur Grizzly. Not too bad. Then she plays an Archmage Antonidas and Fireballs me to death.
I know RNG is a major part of games like this, and I could just as easily had amazing cards in my deck, but are you KIDDING ME?!? Three games in a row that I do my best to keep up with that I wind up losing to topdecked legendaries that completely swing the game out of my favor. I'm not a terrible player, either. I've done 9 wins two times and I've only been in the beta for 2 weeks. I'm a 3-star master player, so it's not like I have no idea what I'm doing. I just can't believe that my excitement at getting to do another arena was dashed so quickly when I felt I had such a solid deck.
My apologies for the rant post, but holy crap, Blizz. Give a guy a break, will ya? Or at least pair people in arena queues against others that have the same win-loss record, ie. you lose your first two games, you get paired against another player that's also 0-2. Not someone that has THREE legendaries in an otherwise solid mage deck.
RNG is a non-issue in Constructed, but in the Arena, it can be a big issue. I know, I almost always end up with decks full of bad cards simply because it's all I could choose from. I mean, once I had to choose between Angry Chicken, Bloodsail Corsair and Alarm-o-Bot. Ridiculous.
Though someone most say: Chicken is bad most of the times, so just scrap it Bloodsail Corsair is a cheaper Version of Oozeling, has its uses vs. several weapons; and a 1/2 for 1 is okay Alarm-o-Bot: Never underestimate the bot! It is either a decent passive taunt, or it helps you getting another minion into the game (if you're lucky this could be a giant or even Ysera) Since RNG is more of a factor in arena, the bot is pretty good in arena. He is a total waste if topdecked for sure.

Well, if you read my other posts about some of my choices in the Arena, you'll know that it will never be a Giant or a Ysera, especially because I never had the chance to draft those (except for Sea Giant, once). Actually in this scenario, he was my pick, and he certainly made me a sad panda ):
I just had a run with 8 rares (no epics nor legendaries), and got destroyed by people throwing giants/legendaries at me. Not like I had any fighting chance. Very unpleasant experience. Collect gold wait nerf priest as well.
I'd say deck construction should not be pure RNG, but pseudo RNG.

But that's how it kinda is, even though sometimes you get screwed by it. Sadly there's nothing you can do.
No, there's always a Blizzard employee watching your game and deciding the outcome of every random based move in which he will always take the opponents side just to make your life miserable.
Blizzard is the devil.
But I can tell you what your big mistake is, playing a class because you like it instead of playing a class because you're strong with it, leave that for practice and non-ranked play, arena is for try hards. I'd blame your loss in the lack of removal that the Paladin has, not on the Alexstrazza's and Jaraxxus.
First off, I played a Paladin, not a priest, so the "Lack of removal available to Priests" argument doesn't really apply.
Second, I had quite a bit of removal for a Paladin; tons of taunts, 3 Truesilver Champions, and 2 Equality is pretty good. The only thing I wish I had more of was Consecrates, as far as removal goes.
Third, the two runs I've done previously with 9 wins were both with paladins, so I wouldn't say that it was a bad choice, especially considering that my other options were Hunter and Shaman, and I'm incredibly inexperienced wtih both.
Lastly, the fact that I had the first two opponents within a turn of winning before they dropped their crazy game-changing legendaries seems to refute your claim that they were not the reason I lost the games. In both cases, I was ahead on cards, creatures, and health, but lost due to single cards.
The condescension in your post is a bit unnecessary, especially since your points are all so easily poked full of holes. You might do well with not posting in a thread if all you can contribute is vitriol.

I know that feel, my best results so far in the Arena were with Pally, and it can get quite bad without Consecration. \:
If you had been offered a Consecration you could've dealt with those 4 Blood Imps. Alternatively he could've gotten no Blood Imps at all. So yes, it's a thing.
Of course RNG is a thing. Here's my take on it: Let's say your "win potential" could be measured with a number. This number will be the sum of your deck's strength plus your skill as a player. Your deck's strength, in turn, is a sum of your deck building skill and whatever the RNG throws at you.
The drafting RNG is, of course, all over the place, sometimes it's "+5" sometimes it's "-5" for your win potential. But if your skill as a player and your skill at picking the best out of 3 bad cards his much much higher than the random fluctuations of the draft, then you will be consistent.
RNG definitely can be an issue. I personally haven't had bad luck in Arenas so far (Minimum of 4 wins in all mine.) But I do see a lot of opponents having issues with their pulls. For example, I played a guy a couple days ago who pulled a Tinkmaster Overspark and turned my minion into a Devilsaur and then proceeded to give up. (http://youtu.be/okBtIEmsTlU). Tinkmaster Overspark is a good 2 drop but he SUCKS as an Arena pick. So that leads me to believe that this guy's RNG was so bad that he had to pick Overspark before two other legendaries! Imagine what those cards were that he had to pick Tinkmaster Overspark.
I mean Arena's is supposed to be RNG, but I would have been really put off of Arenas if I put in a situation that bad.
Also, my roommate is a bigger Blizzard buff than me and he said that Blizzard will release a constructed style of Arena. Kind of like a paid tournament kind of feel. Just a rumor though.
Now that's RNG... That's a brutal bunch of legendaries to try to out play. Bad luck, man. (I would've been ecstatic if I pulled cards like that in Arena, though.)
It's not that bad. My last Arena run I didn't pull any legendaries and I had four wins. But I'm intrigued by that idea of pseudo RNG. Like a fixed number of Rares, Epics, and Legendaries players get. That would at least make it "Fair".
Maybe I used the wrong term, but I meant pseudo-random distribution when i said pseudo RNG.
That doesn't 'fix' the number of rare/epic/legs in deck, but makes it more likely to get expected amount or even guarantee you one (ie. legendary) after huge unlucky streak of not getting one. It doesn't remove the RNG aspect, but does reduce the frustration caused by being 'unlucky' (also reduces chance of people pulling 4 legends in a single draft).
It also takes times (if you do not purchase card packs) to learn how to use the rare/epic/legendary cards - since you do not have experience playing with them in constructed. Even with watching streams - I made mistakes using certain cards.
My arena record is terrible: 13 arena runs with my best effort being 6-3 and I had 3 2-3, 2 1-3 and 2 0-3 losses...
Arena is all about the luck of the cards you get and by luck we all know the real word RNG.
Tonight I had 300 gold to spend on arena, taken iam not a pro player but know what cards to pick I feel good as I pay the fee only to my dread seeing the 30 I get to pick.
I picked mage since I played that the most of the 3 chocies, it only took abour 10sec to see that this was gonna a freaking nightmare, out of all the mage spells I got 2 arcane expo and thats it. 0 rare 0 epic 0 legendary cards, no poly, no board clear, only taunt card was morgue dude 1/7, 0 secrets and so on. I got 1 water element that saved me in 1 fight so awesome.
During the cards iam think I can build a murloc deck turns out I only got 2.
So I win my first game where I belive that the guy has it just as worse as me seeing those cards coming out iam like LOL but the rest are over within turn 8. simply cuz I can only trade my shitty cards for his sometimes I need to use 2 crap on 1.
So those 3 losses iam like cant be that bad so I try instant again and cool I can pick mage again but oh lord have mercy its the same again I get 1 flamestrike. Fastforward to 3 instant loss.
Sometimes rng is not kind and the arena needs to put you up vs people that have the same shitty cards in their decks.

Isn't that exactly what arena is right now? "Pure" RNG would be just getting a deck with 30 random cards.
