Ragnaros is a control deck. Play for value. Your objective is to make it to the late game at which point your hero power will help you stabilize, then close the game out.
That being said, you need to be using your weapon every turn (hit face if there are no good targets) to unlock your hero power faster.
I don't know if I've faced only bad or unlucky Nefarian players, but so far I've not lost with Ragnaros. I'm playing complete control, killing every minion he plays until I get the 8 damage hero power that pretty much seals the deal.

Bad players whine.
Good players adapt.
