I doubt they will release it this week, but what I am hoping is they are getting the alpha in tip top shape for a beta release next week or the week after.
It's likely the first wave of closed beta invites go to the fansites/media and a select few people with certain technical set ups they want to check. After that it's likely more open about who gets an invite.

I hope this people stream A LOT, almost sure i will get an invite only on open beta :/
1: They said not Months, weeks: Shortest this could be is 2 weeks, so perhaps next weekend? Or perhaps as long as Mid / Late September (either way isn't too long!)
2: We have Alpha patches pouring in, signaling they are getting it primed - I expect another one or two before beta starts?
3: The Launcher (required for Hearthstone) was finally pushed out
All of this = we are close! Perhaps as close as THIS weekend>?? who knows? :)
They are likely making sure: Launcher Client is stable, Hearthstone Client is stable and of course making sure the user experience (while not totally finished) is completely streamlined for the public beta launch.
My only worry is that:
Stability issued with the game, making sure the "purchasing" stuff is all integrated nicely will hold the beta launch up and make it more like 5-6 weeks instead of the 2 weeks we are all praying for!
If you ask this question, that means you havent opted-in for beta.
Not necessarily. There could be a lot of people that just simply checked it off that don't have real interest in playing the game when it's released.
It's the same thing as when people apply for betas in other games. Out of all the players who apply, some of them forget about it, get uninterested, or just too busy to actually play the beta.
Btw I agree with xskarma, special rigs (either outdated PC-s, or just uncommon setups) make you a more likely candidate. Also fansites will most likely get some (hopefully for giving away as well)

Maybe I should tag in my old Mac then that's running 10.6 (even though they are unsupporting that soon.
Wish I could add a note that I travel a lot with the MacBook Pro and could test it on Hotel WiFi connections.
Anyone else think this recent influx of alpha patches means they are very close to beta?
Exactly what I am thinking.
yes, but more so what the last one was, minor game changes, but the Local Voice Audio is a MUCH bigger clue! Agree none the less.

But the question is how many people get invited in 1st round of Closed Beta? 500? More? Less?
How does Blizzard know of whom get the invites, who will actually want to test it?

https://eu.battle.net/account/management/beta-profile.html on this page (accessible by going to your account menu then beta profile settings) you can update your PC data and choose which betas you're interested in.
My estimate is that the firs wave will be between 500 and 1k players, but no one really knows other than the devs themselves.

I think it won't be realesed today. All you have to do is repeat that every morning. I has worked so far :D
Let me change your mind

I would be streaming all day, but I may have to wait until the Open to do so.
