So i've installed this app (there is a free version around to try if you look for it) and reduced the color depth to 16 bit, it helped quite a bit to increase the smoothness of the game.
Granted you might lose some "color brilliance" and some animations look different (not bad, different) but i think it's well worth it,
I've read that this app should require root, but it didn't for me (worked on stock 10" tablet with no modifications). There are other options to fiddle with but they didn't seem to matter much. Anyways try at your own "risk", although i don't know what you can risk if the device is not rooted, i don't think you can do any sort of mess.
This is legit, and very close to Chainfire 3d. You'll probably have more options with root, and you'll most likely get the most effect out if this with a custom kernel.
