Just writing in, hoping it’s not a final farewell. I’ve been a long-time lurker on this subreddit and an off-and-on avid player of Hearthstone since Naxxramas. I want to bid goodbye to the Hearthstone community for all the wonderful memories I’ve had playing this game. It has been my go-to distraction since high school and my support system during the pandemic.
I never thought I’d say this, but I’ve loved Blizzard games since I was 16. Now I am in my mid-twenties, I’ve enjoyed all the hype this game was seeing when it was new and the funny moments with “purify debacle and the yu-gi-oh meme parody, and stupid Yogg moments, and weathered through all the rough periods recently with the 2019 controversy and the current slowdown if the game’s popularity. I’ve played this game for nearly a decade. I’ve seen my favorite streamers either leave the game or move on to bigger and better things. To this day I still quote “Scamaz” every time something ridiculous happens with a Discover card in Arena (because that mode is honestly really unbalanced), or “Trump Trading” whenever someone makes a trade on the board instead of going face for lethal.
While I’m saddened to see many people I love leave the game, I’m also excited to see what’s new in the future, especially with the upcoming BlizzCon. I was tempted to purchase the “BlizzCon Collection Bundle” for my collection, even though I’m adding to my pile of shame on whaling on this game with 10k spent.
However, today I found out I couldn’t log in to my account on my phone. I received an email stating the reason for my account ban: automation of gameplay (also known as bots). I honestly don’t even know how I would have accessed a bot to play for me on an iPhone or iOS in general, heck I don’t even have any access to a deck tracker or an Heartharena. I played the game whenever I had free time—during my commute, in the toilet, or before going to bed. This has really put a damper on my excitement for the new card releases and anything new coming at BlizzCon. I had even preordered both bundles for the new expansion, so now I’ve lost that too due to this ban too.
Even though the email states that no customer support staff can assist me with this decision, there is a link in the email suggesting I can appeal the penalty by submitting a support ticket. However, I’m at a loss on what to write. Will anyone believe me when I say I got wrongly banned for botting when I only play on mobile? Is it even possible to bot on a mobile device? How do I dispute this ban when they won’t even speak to me about it? I honestly at a lost here, currently I’m staring at the customer support screen with no idea what to write or even if it’s even worth it to write something at all. While processing this loss atm, probably for all the time spent and sunk cost fallacy thing with hearthstone, I don’t really know what to do. I feel very sad for some reason, even though over the years I’ve stopped playing on occasion to try and quit this game moving on to other games like Gwent, elder scrolls legends, Pokémon TCG, but I always comeback to the game because there’s really not other card game on the market that makes me enjoy playing with the quality and all the crazy simple interactions one match can have, with the convenience on playing on my phone.
Sorry to moan on for too long, just wanted to get what I’m feeling out of my head, and holding on to hope that maybe something can happen. But if not, I’ll always have the memories of the times I had playing this game and being there to experience every amazing moments. It’s been a wild ride and hopefully you guys will be able to eat up everything that’s going to happen at blizzcon.
Just write in the support ticket that you didn't use any automation software and wait for your account to be reinstated. Simple as that. You could've done that in the time it took you to write this long ass topic.
