woaw. I have never thought that I would come back one day and would create this topic. I hope my English writing skills are good enough for understanding my thoughts about hs.
Wtf, who are you?? Good question!
Iam a former hs player. I played hs from the first release until the release of frozen throne. I spent more than 500 $ for this game. My highest rank I have ever reached was rank 1 with freeze mage and midrange hunter. I beat some of the pro players on my way 😉 I did not reached legend, because I needed 3 more wins and it was the last day of the season (31. of december >.<). Normally I would skip this introducing “shit” but people always come with the argument “L2P, noob, F2P salty player and so on”.
What do you want? Good question again!
I loved hearthstone back in the days a lot! Woaw, how much time I spent in this game with my friends and we had so much fun. But I slowly recognized that Blizzard is changing the game. The creation of the wild and standard format was necessary but it felt like a punch in the face because I lost soo many of my cards. I know. “You can still use them in wild”… Come on guys and girls. I was very competitive in this game and wild is wild. Broken combos. Nearly zero fixes for the meta and so on. But I accepted it and went on.
Next step was the higher price for the card packs. More legendaries. More expansions. More powercreep. My response? I quitted with the game. It felt not good for me and I had many many times where I wanted to play this game but there is one thing that I don’t like. I don’t like it to speak hours and hours about “how bad the game is” and still pay for everything or play it. So, me and my friends went on and we all left the game. And that is exactly how you can deal with a company like blizzard. It makes no sense to pay for everything and start every week a new topic about how bad the game is. Quit and leave or play and enjoy it.
What do you want? Ok, next try!
The announcing of this new expansion got me excited. I was interested in HS again. Who does not like dragons? :D So, I watched all the card reveals, read about the current meta and so on and installed HS again…. My thoughts?
What is this shit? So many expansions in standard, so many broken cards, shaman still cancer? I stopped playing the game for more than 2 years and evolve shaman is still a thing? 4 mana 8/8 dragon? I stopped the game because of 4 mana 7/7… I really wanted to give this game a try but nothing changed.
Battlegrounds is very funny! And I like how blizz is trying to give the player something back. The free packs for doing some easy quests are positive too. But so many expansions? It makes no sense for me. When did hearthstone made the most money? It was in the days where there were only few expansions/adventures. Blizz is going in a wrong way with this game and it makes me sad. It was a very good game. But yeah, it was.
I know. There is always this comparison with MTG or Yugioh. BUT. Guys and girls. This is a digital card game. Why not using these advantages? You can CHANGE digital cards. Something that is not possible if you use physical cards. You have to print a new version of the card a.s.o. I read so many threads about op cards, very late nerfs, too much rng…
I know. “Do you know how difficult it is? You are not grateful”. Guys and girls. Blizzard is a company, right? So, they are in competition with other companies. Why did they not learn from other companies (like riot games)?
Dude, what do you want? Ok, ok, ok, last try
I had all these thoughts in my mind and I wanted to share this with you. I really love this website and Iam a silent reader since the creation of hearthpwn. I don’t want that you follow me and quit the game. Make whatever you want. I would appreciate to hear some other thoughts from veteran players and what they think about the game. My friends always told me that I shouldn’t be that competitive in this game. Maybe that is my mistake. But I grew up with card games and always like it to play smarter than my opponent ^^
And again. I am not disrespectful against Blizzard. Hearthstone was a beautiful game for me. And they did many things very good. But I have the feeling that they are stucked and have no idea how they can get the community back.
Dude are you proud because almost reached legend on the last day of the month? That's when dumpster players fight for their piece of cake! LOL
I've been playing adventures for the last 2 months (my favourite mode at the moment) because I'm bored of this unbalanced snowball game. Nothing has changed with the new expansion, Blizzard needs to balance classes and react faster -or at least react- when a class completly dominates or disencourages healthy strategies/gameplans because they don't stand a chance ie Dr Boom Mad Genious before nerfs.
Blizzard is the perpetrator of the last unfun and unfair meta.
I feel the complete opposite of you, to me Hearthstone has only become better since I started playing between Old Gods and Karazhan. More expansions make the game less stale and more fun! Yes, it makes the game more expensive too. But in the last couple of years, so many f2p friendly changes have been made: the no duplicate legendary rule, guaranteed legendary in the first 10 packs, no more 40g quests while 60g quests are the new standard, quests have become way easier to complete (play games rather than win games), and we're generally given more free stuff when a new expansion goes live. Ungoro gave everyone three packs and a legendary quest - Dcd gave everyone a free legendary (Sathrovarr), all five Galakronds and two invoke cards, three packs straight up and a legendary quest chain that rewards a total of nine packs and 100 gold. I also don't think packs have become more expensive. The Ungoro preorder was 50$ for 50 packs, DcD was 50$ for 60 packs and a golden legendary, and we see favourable bundles far more often (the Winter Veil boundle with 30 packs and a new Druid hero for 25$ will be live December 19).
Perhaps best of all is the singleplayer content. I've spent hours and hours playing Dungeon Run, Monster Hunt, Rumble Run, Dalaran Heist and Tombs of Terror. HOURS. The Boomsday puzzles were a lot of fun, if less replayable, and a great way for new players to practice some of the core elements of Hearthstone. I also love the characters and meta stories they have created, the story of Karl and George for example. And the idea of telling a story across three expansions have proved to be a great concept.
My perspective might be different that yours for several reasons: I didn't play from the beginning, so I've never experienced Hearthstone as it was back then, before Wild and with way fewer cards in the meta. I've also played neither another CCG or another Blizzard game, which maybe limits my perspective, or at least make it different from some other players. I also watched all these changes happening, while you just jumped back into the game at perhaps the worst possible time, when there are the greatest amount of cards in standard (returning after rotation is usually better).
Your experience is totally valid, and I respect it. I can see how the Hearthstone of today is not the Hearthstone you miss or want. But from my perspective, Hearthstone is the best and most fun it's ever been, and this expansion has been great so far!
