"Earlier this year we talked about adding a new feature to Hearthstone that would make it easier to organize tournaments for Fireside Gatherings and private events. The team has been working on this feature for some time, and it was originally slated to arrive this year. Unfortunately, In-game Tournaments are now on hold, so we wanted to take this opportunity to explain why...."
So, as I understand it, they weren't trying to creat some kind of in game onlnie tournament mode at all? Really?...and yet they can't even pull that off?
Firstly, what is the point in wasting dev time (and lots of it) by trying to creat a mode that the community has already built for them, with work arounds/hacks, multiple spectations, etc etc.
Secondly, I can not BELIEVE they were/are not trying to create some kind of in game online tournament mode (similar to modes quite popular in sports games right now, like Fifa, Madden, Pro Evo...and maybe other genres I'm not sure), with its own sealed/unsealed modes, reward structures, leagues, cups...who knows, endless possibilities. The revenue generated from hearthstone has always been insane, its still is even now - what the hell do Activision do with all the cash? Is reinvestment of any sort to improve the game completely off the table?
I was just saying the other day that if I were to quit ladder (which I already did after seeing the results of my two tests), I would start playing arena and the announced tournament mode. In my mind the tournament mode would be so much better as compared to the current ladder.
I suppose the good thing is that I have absolutely no reason left anymore to buy packs and can save my money for something else.
