Q1: If I have a twitch account but 0 bits, I’m not getteing any rewards, community or personal?
Q2: Can you acquire bits without paying real money?
I’m not complaining, just want to be sure I get this, cause I never used og heard of the “bit” thingy, but don’t wanna miss out on free HS stuff if the are some.
100 bits <> $1. That's how much goes directly to the streamer/team you cheer for. Remember that twitch and the credit card companies want a cut too. (edit: Right now there is a limited time one-time-only sale where that rate holds true at 1000 bits for $10.)
It started because a lot of the high viewer streamers were making most of their money from donations rather than subscriptions, and donations were often handled through 3rd parties. Twitch (AKA Amazon) invented bits to make donating directly through the ap easy and "fun". When you donate it is very obvious in the chat window, even if the streamer doesnt have on screen donation tracker logs and animations. More importantly, they could now skim up to 40% of the donation off the top.
To get the "free" packs and rewards from the pack promotion, simply donate ("cheer") bits while on the official hearthstone twitch channel. Cheering for a qualifying team or player on their own personal channels does not count. Note that only the number of bits matters. You do not have to watch 20 hours of the tournament and cheer hundreds of times to get the rewards. If all you care about if the reward and not the content of the stream, a single 2500 bit cheer will suffice and take you all of 2 minutes (and about $30 real world cash).
You buy bits by logging into twitch. If you are using a tablet you must switch to desktop view. Here is a screenshot of the prices in the USA market:
Wow that is so scummy of Amazon do they also punish streamers still using 3rd parties for donations? That's really sad for the beginner streamers that really need the full donations
"Free" hearthstone stuff. xD Bits are a scam. If you want to donate money to someone or a team, there are direct avenues to do so. Bits let twitch and Blizzard fill their pockets while giving only a fraction of the money to the person you are cheering for. It's not bad when people are grinding bits and doing what they can because they don't have jobs, but this donate for hearthstone shit is so gross. A thinly veiled attempt and squeezing a cash out of their most loyal fan base. It's not even worth your time. Save your money for Artifact bro. You could get the entire game and a good chunk of the cards for 35 dollars.

Nah bits are Dollars. To be exact:
100 Bits = 1 Dollar
It is a way to donate your money to a streamer and Twitch.

Anger is the punishment we give ourselves for someone else's mistake.
