Hello everyone! My name is Highmitsu, played HS since S2 and I have somewhat of a problem.
Let me elaborate on exactly what happens at the start of every single season so far.
The season starts. Ranks are reset. I go on a binge of matches untill I hit rank 10 or so, usually by means of a good streak here and there (losing a couple of times along the way because, well, everyone loses.) I guess you could say that, so far, that's pretty normal. Except it's not in my case.
After the start of every season and where I do that one binge, I lose my guts to queue. I completely lose the will to queue up and go for another match. As if there is an invisible force preventing me from playing ladder. I honestly can't tell what it is but it's incredibly crippling. I've told myself every single season, "this is the season where I'm going for legend for sure!" as motivation.
But I never do. I play quite often. But not ladder. Just casual. Thing is, I really, really love this game. I've played it an absolute shit ton, have spent several hundred euros to collect every card(and subsequently almost all gold cards apart from leveling, ofcourse.) but I am just crippled because there is something in my head preventing me from trying to play ranked.
I'm just here to ask if this has ever plagued anyone else and if anyone has some sort of advice for me. Thanks in advance!
yea sometimes when i grind out to rank 5 or 4 i just dont ladder anymore and go into casual/friend matches because its really frustrating to lose ranks to hunters and see your hard work get depleted. i feel like you have to ignore that fright though if you want to hit legend and just spam ladder. also you dont get wins towards golden heroes if you dont go into ladder so theres one insentive atleast
If you have a goal that relies on playing ladder, you have to play ladder to reach it.. Ranks mean nothing much honestly unless you are at the very top, just play and see how far you can go. If you can't make it to legend, so what, not everyone can.. I went from rank 1 3-4 stars back to rank 4 earlier this season with the worst luck streak ever. I took a little break and played again and made it. I was going for top 100 yesterday on a win streak, then I have another spell of extremely bad luck (undertaker opponents with no answer, huffers, wild growth druids (turn 3 cairne, turn 4 DotC, turn 5 Sylvanas etc), people overextending with no brawl in hand, etc) and drop to 600ish. It doesn't really matter. Everyone fluctuates ranks a ton, especially in legend ranking.. You can be top 50 one day and top 1000 the next, then climb all the way back up the next day. Same for the standard 25-legend ladder.
You can't control RNG. sometimes you have great win streaks and great losing streaks, but if you enjoy the game and understand rng is a large part, you just have to see what changes you could have made such as mulligans or misplays. It's not like you are in top 5 legend and a few losses can blow you out.
I have some friends that get a high legend ranking early in the season, then they sit on it and play casual for the rest of the season. I don't consider them better players for a top 100 rank, I just see fear and a mentality in thinking that the rank determines their skill level. The more they play, the more likely they will lose it with large fluctuations. I respect the people in the very high legend ranks who continue to play and go for success/#1 rather than fearing failure.
I hope I'm not making things worse, but consider this: is there something more important in your life than hs? Think about that. Then play this meaningless game.
Yesterday I lost 5 games in a row. I started to get pretty frustrated, I thought about taking a break which is usually the thing to do in that situation. But I reasoned that I wasn't intoxicated and that my losses really where mostly the result of RNG so I didn't give up. I ended up playing probably another 8 games or so and got enough wins to get my W/L % above 50% for that day.

That's some deep shit but it's also true. I'd say you're afraid of losing (it's normal), but losing is part of the game. Don't think about winning or losing, just play the game. If you, and your deck, truly are better than others, the wins will come and you will eventually get legend rank. Get legend or die grinding, like 50 Cent said. You're over thinking it.
I'd guess its fear of failure. Since you have spent a decent amount of time/resources on this game, if you failed to acquire legend, the point at which popular opinion holds you to be good, all of those euros and hours spent would seem to have been for naught.
You can't harass members who play Face Hunter, nor are they compelled to make preemptive apologies or justifications for playing it. They don't hack or crack their opponents' game, they simply play existing cards that form a specific deck. If you suck at countering Face Hunter, you should blame the designers, not the community.
I can relate to a couple of posts here and some people's suggestions that I might somewhere be afraid to lose ranks, but... that didn't stop me in WoW when I was playing ranked arena, I'd keep going at it despite losing like 5 times in a row. Or maybe it is and I just have it with HS. It's possible! Thanks for all the replies so far, it's inspiring!

Have a seat on my couch (actually, we don't use couches anymore, unless to sit on, not lay):
Sounds like there is some internal workings (fear) within you that prevent you from either:
A: Succeeding
B: Failing
My guess is that it is a combination of both, and is is crippling you. Why do you fear succeeding?

Ladder anxiety. Many suffer from it (including me) at different ranks and levels.
There have been some threads here on HearthPwn about that issue, and If you google hearthstone ladder anxiety, you'll find a lot about it. Here is an example: http://www.reddit.com/r/hearthstone/comments/2a6wev/regarding_ladder_anxiety/
And here is some tips regarding overcoming it: http://www.pcgamer.com/hearthstone-help-tips-for-overcoming-ladder-anxiety/

You should come to realize that ranks are irrelevant. Then it's just the same as casual.
