what's the point of your question? it all depends on the cards he had. when you get legendary, some players, use decks that they aren't good at to practice coz they can't go down to legendary status anymore. or some don't care about getting to rank 1 legendary and just play fun and theory crafted decks.
Hmm well considering he is legend it might have some merit. Perhaps a desperate attempt to keep your armor low? When I play handlock I will sometimes t1 or t2 sunfury prot to beat armor down to prevent an op shield bash

just a testament to how much of a joke the "competitive scene" is in this game.
his play has nothing to do with anything you just said. hes playing c/p control warrior. coining turn 1 armorsmith against an empty board isnt EVER a good play and shouldnt take "practice" to realize that.
maybe he was new to using the control warrior deck...
he probably got to legend with another deck...and switched to this new control warrior deck...
if you have constantly played an aggro deck...when you see you have 2 2drops you would coin one out immediately...that's to gain tempo and using your mana efficiently....so if he was new to this control deck then you can't blame him!
This was one game ... as suggested, he may have had no other choice, or thought the armorsmith will survive and he could back it up with the next turn ... or whatever ... it's ONE move, in ONE game, you felt a need to make a thread about this?
Who's to say it's a terrible play anyway? did you hear this on a stream or something? Are we all supposed to play the identical moves turn for turn? sounds fun that ... not

Can someone explain why this is a bad play? I play Tempo Warrior and often times will coin out an Armorsmith. It's board presence, and I'll usually have a followup turn 2 play either with inner rage, cruel taskmaster, or even an Amani Berserker so i can follow up turn 3 with a whirlwind. I'm nowhere near legend (rank 5 atm) but don't see how it's a bad opening move.

I don't think there is any combination of cards a control Warrior can have in his opening hand that would make coining armor smith correct in a mirror match, unless he was 100% positive that he was playing an aggro warrior- which he could't have been because this was a random ladder match and warriors on ladder nowadays are overwhelmingly control.
I don't see a reason why this would be SOOOOO bad. Turn 1 armorsmith gives you board presence or let you mass armor from turn 2 for shield slam. You are also able to Taskmaster or bait Axe versus a lot of players or actually prevents your opponent from going turn 2 armorsmith themselves if you happen to have Axe ...

Just a testament how fking retarded you are. Coin Armor smith is great since you can buff it and Warroir cant do 4 damage on turn 2. Considering you said you faced a legendaryplayer that means you yourself arent legend already. Might have to do with you being fking dumb and think every play you dont understand is bad.
wow you're mad. im not legend because i just started playign ranked for this month 2 days ago. i rarely play as is. im currently rank 3 4 stars and the grind is real.
heres why you are an idiot btw. its control vs control. what you do turns like 1-4 are largely irrelevent to the outcome of the game. to waste a coin on a 1/4 that literally does nothing for you in a control game is ridiculous. to think its NOT a horrible play is silly.

you're the only 1 who has common sense i guess lol.

Well I think we can assume the OP lost the game, if he had won, he certainly would have boasted about beating a Legend player.
legend players are average. im a past season legend, im not legend right now cus i dont play hearthstone anymore. so beating a legendary hardly counts as an accomplishment. this game is all about matchups and not skill anyways.(but i guess maybe its a little skill because some people apparently think his turn 1 play was good?)and i believe i stated i won. ironically the guys name was Legend.
My question to you is, what was your follow up play to deal with the armorsmith? Some people panic and care too much about dealing with the armorsmith.

Turn 1 armorsmith, turn 2 ghoul, turn 3 acolyte. If your gamble of your opponent not having an axe pays off then you have pretty much gained a huge advantage.

I think you're overvaluing the coin in the matchup though. Especially in a control matchup where hand size sometimes becomes relevant.

in warrior control mirror match. are some legend players really just that bad? or is this the work of a bot?
even against aggro warrior turn 1 armorsmith seems really poor especially when your opponent doesnt play a 2/1 1 drop on turn 1 lol.

nothing. he attacked for 1. and he lost the game so whatever he was thinking with that turn 1 coin didnt work.
