So, I'm thinking of making a custom expansion with this mechanic in mind and I wanted to know how people think of it before I make it. These are the Dark Matter Orbs. You play cards, you gain Dark Matter Orbs. Your Dark Matter Orbs are stored beneath your Mana Crystals. There's currently no decided limit as to how many you can hold at one time, but there most likely will be one in the future (probably 10). But how does one go about getting these orbs. Simple, say hello to my little friends.
And don't worry. Classes have their own means of acquiring these orbs as well.
"Wisples" = "Whistles" + "Wisp"
But what's the purpose of these? Like, how do you use them? Glad you asked. You use these orbs for a greater benefit with additional cards. Let's see some examples.
And as always, classes get their own tools of fun as well.
When you unlock the power, its your choice how you use it, you can decided how many orbs you spend for these effects. But this comes at a price. Dark Matter Orbs are no measly play thing, you need to use them when it's necessary, Dark Matter Orbs do not regenerate. Once you use them, they're gone.
So, what do you think of this new power?

I had a pretty similar idea with a Soul Shards mechanic I created:
I like how you used Dark Matter Orbs for different classes, each one fits their identity.
I have just one minor issue: how do you decide how many Orbs to spend when you play the cards? Would you click on your "Orbs bar" or do you get to choose the options similarly to discover?
In my opinion "spend all Dark Matter Orbs" might be better, it's simpler both to understand and to write on the cards, and more consistent overall. It has the downside of heavily restraining the design, which is a bad thing.
When designing my Soul Shards mechanic I came across this problem and I solved by putting a little Orb underneath the cost of the cards, but I'm interested to hear your opinion on this matter, it was a very crucial point for me.

Yeah, in all fairness, I don't really think this would've been a hard thing to come up with. (I believe Blizzard even tried to incorporate a strikingly similar idea with the Kabal in MSOG, but ultimately didn't make it into the final build).
Yes, an interface just like Discover would show up and because the orbs would be so small, you could put a lot of them on one row and not have it cause any problems. Originally, I actually did use "spend all Dark Matter Orbs" and I might still use it for some cards, but I felt that was too restrictive a lot of the time as you don't have full control over how you use them just like the Forbidden cards.
I do really like how you put the Soul Shard cost beneath the normal cost. It saves a lot of space and would be a lot easier and simpler, not to mention less frustrating than having to write something like "Soul Shard Cost: (2)" on the card.

I thought all 4 cards would be on one line. This is why you should use the Preview button.
