Got a lot of value out of that card last night thanks to Cairne Bloodhoof.
Only at rank 14 though, I'd imagine the higher I get the more often Tinkmaster will show up to ruin my day. But damned if I wasn't elated when his 3 cards in hand did not include a silence. It was a risky maneuver, but it sure paid off! The safer way to play it, of course, is to wait until you are going to trade your minion so it can't be silenced, but I had a feeling he was going to kill cairne before I had a chance to cast spirit on him.
you can effectively check and see if they have silence through situations like having a sylvanas on the field, if things like your sylvanas or your twilight drakes (sometimes they cant deal with them and are forced to drop a silence, its fun when it happens for the drake player). Sometimes your Cairne might be dying on their turn, which is less ideal, but if for whatever reason its your turn, you're holding spirit you can cast it on Cairne and trade immediately so theres no risk of a silence play, and no matter what you've got a bain bloodhoof and a cairne, even if they silence cairne now.
Of course, same goes for cards like Sylvanas, if you have a sylvanas and for whatever reason they didnt elect to kill her (maybe they went for face and flooded the board to reduce your RNG on her), you clear the board the best you can, spirit on her and start taking their cards!
Thats why it can be a situationally very powerful card. If they answer your threats or are packing silences it can be weak, but if they dont have answers it can make things a lot worse for them.
from the posts I see, it seems most people are assuming that your playing this card on a creature that ends up surviving the fight,
I would say its probably smarter to hold onto the AS until you know your creature is going to trade and die. then your guaranteed to get the value of the card. though the risk there is that your creature dies on your opponent's turn. so either way its a toss up. but I say whenever possible, choose to hold on to the card for the moment the creature will die, not if the creature will die

Even funnier when you play it against a control paladin
