I agree with the crafting thing, you get what you get, nothin u cn do abt it. But I still have trouble seeing fully your reasoning, playing casual gets you just as much gold as playing ranked, its just ot as much fun not a way to prove yourself and not a way to get cardbacks. I hve a feeling there is something i am missing here so lets keep going until I find it.
Basically what I'm saying is that improving your deck with multiple rares/epics as apposed to one legendary will most likely have a more significant boost to your win/loss ratio, which means you'll be getting gold at a faster rate. Then because you'll be earning gold faster, you'll be earning packs/arenas faster, so you'll be earning dust faster.
Yea, after opening 60+ packs or something, you will get lots of duplicates, to the point that 1 pack feels like 50+ dust only. You should craft some important commons/rares like Harvest Golem, Argent Commander or Azure Drake to make your deck playable but don't craft too many or you risk losing out losing out lots of dust. I've gotten 6x Argent Commanders but I've never regret crafting him since he helped me so much in early days.
The best way still, is to ignore casual/ranked and just grind arena repeatedly, since you gain a lot more than the 10g per 3 wins in those mode just by getting 3+ wins. When you are in short of good cards, it's very hard to compete with netdecking players anyways.
If you craft all of the good rares first you will get more duplicates from packs and convert dust to packs faster. Granted, you waste a lot of dust in the long, long run when you open 2x Azure Drake, Gadgetzan. Argent Commander, or whatever, but you earn the packs way faster when you win a lot more with 10 more good rares in your decks. I would recommend every new player to craft the staple neutral rares before saving up for legendaries.
You'll get every rare eventually, but the utility you'll get from staples is worth crafting now. If you're really concerned start with just one ofs and hope to draw the second of each from packs. At the end of the day though, play with a card like Azure Drake or SI:7 Agent and tell me you regret that 80 future dust you wasted. On the epic level, Ancient of Lore is a must-have for Druid but most of the others you can just wait for.

Yes, but. Unless there's a specific deck I want to complete or a card that's just so universally good I don't like to craft more than one. Even epics.

Ahh, time wise. now that I get it I have an opinion. That's just a tiny bump. Not a big deal.
