Hey there, new user here on Hearthpwn, long time follower.
So I've had the beta for a short time now (got my invite right after the big wipe patch). I am having an immense amount of fun playing this game, and have been anticipating it for a long time now. This is pretty much what I always wanted Magic The Gathering to be, in terms of the easily accessible online format.
Anyway, my problem today is with fighting Priests in Arena (big surprise, huh?). It has literally reached the point that when I see that I am facing one at the start of match, I just instantly concede. There is no point, and I can better utilize my time doing other things. Note that this is just with Arena. In play mode I have an average win/loss rate against Priests, and they don't bother me as much. Everyone has discussed Priests over and over already, so I do not have any new points to share really, I just wanted to let another voice be heard about the issue.
But yea, everything about this game is magnificent, I love it to death and would not change a thing. It's just this priest issue that is the one big flaw. I see that I am facing a priest and I just say "NOPE!" and move on with my day. This is already on top of the fact that my record for arena is only 4 wins. I have played so many that I have just accepted the fact that the RNG in Arena is the devil himself, the dark prince Lucifer. I can draft good decks for my run, but I swear the game thinks that I need all of my highest costing cards first for some reason. Actual game: turn one, draw 7 cost card, turn two, draw 6 cost card, turn three, draw 7 cost card. This has happened MULTIPLE TIMES.
Sorry, got off topic, but I had to vent. Anyway, those are my issues. I am not whining, as I said, I love this game to death and do not curse the name of Blizzard or any of its employees. I am merely adding my name to the list of many more players who agree that Priests need a DRASTIC change right now.
I feel your pain with priest decks and they definitely can be alot to handle sometimes. Just got to remind yourself that even though there are a good chunk of people playing this is still a closed beta and very likely that a number of cards. hero powers, or other things can change whenever Blizzard wants to really. While it seems like it's a finished product it's in beta because it needs some polishing.

Eric Dodds (Game Designer for Hearthstone) made a recent post on this topic. They are watching mind control closely. Here is what he said:
We have seen a lot of talk about Mind Control lately, and I wanted to let you know that we are definitely paying attention to your concerns that Mind Control can be pretty powerful as well as frustrating to play against. We are talking about the issue here and looking at the power of Mind Control at different skill levels and in different modes so we can make any adjustments that may be needed. We’re still deliberating the right course of action, but we have heard you guys and we understand your concerns. Keep up the great feedback!

I feel you, man. The RNG in this game works the same as it works for me when I'm playing games like XCOM...
XCOM example: 93% to hit five shots -- miss ALL of them. HS example: starting hand = Mind Control/Sea Giant/Venture Co. Mercenary. Repick all the cards = get them ALL back. This happens multiple times. And I'm not even getting started on the drafts itself, I've posted on another topic about that.
The XCOM Remake actually has the outcome of a shot saved, before you even do it. So this shot will miss all the time.
Yes, sometimes I feel like the cards that I draft in the arena work the same way, lol.
But you know what, I'll get back in there and try again, even if all I get out of it is the notes of all my drafts, to prove my lack of luck (or, if I'm drafting anything wrong, so you guys can help me with that).
Just keep at it. Priests can be frustrating but they are by no means overpowered. I just finished a 9-2 Arena run as a Rogue and my losses were to a Shaman and Paladin.

Maybe try drafting a lower curve? *shrug*
What if more than half of your drafts are 4+ cards? Happens to me all the time.
And by drafts I don't mean the cards I choose, I mean the cards I get the chance to pick. So at least 16 choices were about 4+ mana cost cards.
I have no problems with Priests in Arena. Mages and Pallies seem strongest there.
I agree, I see priests and I say free win! Specially with shaman, I had a 11 game winning streak vs priests with Thrall. I think I have the highest win rate vs priest over all the other classes. Once you figure out the priests weaknesses they are easy to beat.
I'm not sure what to say. I've had a lot of success with a large top-end. See the attachment - it has a ton of 5 drops (I ended up winning 9-2)...but a lot of them are strong removal. There is a lot of RNG in card picks...sometimes you just get unlucky. I usually have a good amount of success (averaging probably 7/6-3) but I have had terrible 2-3 runs.

Well at least you also have a lot of solid 2-3 mana cost options. But you had a good idea, next time I'm in the arena, I'll post some screenshots as well. I've been having terrible runs all along, and I've had 2 successful runs (7-3 and 8-3, IF you can call that success at all).
Oh and of course, some honorable mention goes to my opponents, who for some reason always have some VERY STRONG legendaries (like Cairne and even Ragnaros) or 3 Holy Nova/Mind Control (I've had a Priest who had 3 of both), while I feel like a winner if my deck has 2 epics... Like I've stated in another thread, after 30+ arenas, only one draft was of legendary cards.

Of course it is a success, even a great success. Anything 7+ is 150G and some extras, and therefore always a great success. Don't destroy your motivation by thinking otherwise ;)

Don't concede, I've beat a priest by turn 6 sunday in arena. Had a strong dec though 7-3 . And cards just came as they were needed. Depends on your luck
So here I am some time later, and I gotta say, Priests don't bother me at all anymore, lol. I have improved my game so much and have equal stakes against all classes.
That being said, I still can't do much in arena. My best is 4 wins, and that was mostly luck of the draw. I just don't get it. I draft really good decks (my friends even ask me for help drafting), and like I said I have improved my skills a lot. I just get destroyed in arena. I almost stopped playing it altogether, but my buddy reminded me I still get a pack regardless, plus dust, so why not.
I am just gonna keep chugging along and hopefully get better with more time. Either way, this game is everything I hoped it would be and I have fun every time I play.

We're in the same boat, brother.
Why do you have so many 6/7 cost cards in Arena?
But I feel you, Mind Control is rage inducing.

I lose far more games to Truesliver than MC.
I don't put priest particularly high on the Arena list - definitely below Warrior, Paladin and probably below Mage and Warlock

I just drafted a priest arena deck...not a SINGLE shadow word OR mind control was offered
I think people are going to find THIS particular priest quite the opposite of OP ='(
EDIT: Just wont a game because the other guy conceded as the game started, ROFL if only he knew...
Wow, so many great responses, thanks everyone :)

priests are fine.
and if you concede instantly how do you know you were going to loose? i find mages and hunters way more dangerous in arenas.
