Hey, I'm a rank 5 constructed player who usually averages around 3-5 wins in Arena. I know, not great, I don't play Arena much (300 wins in Arena compared to 3000 in constructed).
But today I hopped on a second account I have for World of Warcraft, and played the free Arena run from it. This account has almost level 1 on every class and hasn't ranked beyond 20 in constructed ever...
I was thinking, does the above have anything to do with the skill level of your opponents in Arena? Because in my complimentary run (using a semi-okay Paladin deck) I went 12-0...for someone who has never gotten above 7 wins on his normal account and normally gets much lower, how do I go 12-0? My class ranks and match history on the account must surely match me with weaker opponents? The decks I was facing, I felt, were far less well constructed than I normally run in to as well. Normally every Mage has multiple Fireballs, Flamestrikes, everything he could possibly need, and every Paladin has Consecrations, Uldamans, Musters, etc.
The only other difference I can think of is I normally very rarely draft well in terms of AoE, usually never getting a single AoE spell. But this time I got 2 Consecrations. Otherwise, it was a fairly "meh" deck. Any insights on the whole unused account matching up with newer opponents? Cheers.
Blizzard insists that the only MMR in arena is the system that tries to match you with an opponent whose record in his/her current arena run is similar to yours.
What you experienced is probably just the effect of a new expansion coming out. Last week, only diehards were playing arena, and competition was stiff. This week, all and sundry who want to mess around with the new cards in arena are queueing up. Basically, you queued into a bunch of scrubs (and demolished them, good work).

No help here? :(

New accounts in the arena play as though they have one more loss than they do, there is a Ben Brode interview on this with Hafu.
