Sorry in advance for the salt, I haven't seen a salt thread, so I made this post.
So yeah, before I begin, I know, Duels is Hearthstone turned up to 11, but damn it feels bad to have such an amazing deck and being defeated by RNG. I really though I was going for 12 wins this time.
For example, I'm dominating the match, my opponent's down to 4 life with Tirion Fordring and a paladin secret on board. I've got lethal in hand and Maw of C'Thun to deal with Tirion. But surprise surprise, as I cast Maw, the secret (which was cast by Scroll of Wonders, no less) was Oh My Yogg!, transformed Maw with Blessed Champion, which triggered twice on Tirion (because of Double Time and it was the only minion on the field), which essentially gave my opponent a 32/6 minion with divine shield and lethal on board, of which I could not deal with. I mean, what were the chances of exactly that happening?
Here is my feeling about Duels up to this point, after having played about 100 matches. Victories seldom feel earned and defeats often feel like you've been robbed. All because of that excessive RNG. In ranked, I go to a match with confidence in my own abilities as an experienced player. I know the meta, I know what to expect. In Duels, I sincerely have no idea if I'll ever make it to 12 wins, simply because the game can flip the middle finger and ruin your run on a whim, even if you had played flawlessly, drafted the best cards/passives and drew perfectly. It sucks. The example above is far from the only time such bad RNG ruined my runs.
Maybe I've been unlucky thus far. But I'm at a point where I don't even feel like playing Duels... and it sucks that I don't want to play. I want to love the mode, as I loved the single player experience. Maybe the pool of draftable cards is too large? Maybe I should lower my expectations and play less competitively. Idk...
Anyway, thanks for reading, I really needed to vent. I hope you guys have a great day.
Believe me, everybody experiences the same. There is no Consistency in this Mode. You sail into the Blue basically everytime^^ If your too competitive, Duels will give you Cancer!
Well, I think you understand your issue. Playing well in duels increases your odds of winning but it doesn't make you win. I find focusing on making good choices rather than focusing on results can help negate feelings of being frustrated related to losing games. I simply do my part and let the dice determine the rest. Let the chips fall where they may.
