If you you, for whatever reason, didn't get a chance to watch the Innkeeper's invitational, here is a VoD of the finals (Kripp vs Artosis): http://www.twitch.tv/wow/b/478168971
I want you guys to submit your feedback on the PRODUCTION of this tournament. By that I mean the observer mode they used, the casting, the general experience for the viewers. I want to hear what improvements you think could be made to the information displayed on the big screens, if any.
One thing that was certainly an issue for me, as a live viewer, was the Health numbers. It was very heard to see how much health each player has remaining, much less if you are at the back of the room.
So, what do you guys think? Did you like the split screen with the players face when it was their turn? Is there any other vital information you would like to see presented on the big screen?
It was kind of distracting for them to show a player finishing their turn and then cut to the other player and then see on thier board the other player's turn in progress. That could have likely been handled better.
I also agree on the benefit of clear information somewhere on the viewer-only screen where you can see health/cards in hand/cards in stack/mana total/mana left to play with/other things? I think that information can be better presented when shown in a large crowd setting like this (or for the viewer at home, for that matter).

I think it would be better if it was possible to see both players hands rather than switching screens at the end of the each turn.As a viewer at home i think every thing else was pretty good.
No, I mean it in tournament play as well. This way people won't get to judge the player's decisions, and I also think it would add a nice little "surprise factor", as in you wouldn't be able to predict either player's reaction to anything.

Not knowing what the options are in a player's hand, not seeing how they just top decked that Blizzard they needed and stuff like that would greatly diminish the watchability of the game I feel. I'm against them covering up player's hands. The surprise in this case would be lame, since you have no clue what their other choices were, so no way to judge if they made a mistake or not (Reckful having killing damage in hand, anyone? We wouldn't have known with this in place).

I know it might clutter the screen, but I wish I could of seen the opposing players reaction as their opponent was playing the cards. Every time it swapped over they'd already had time to process what had been played.
I would of liked 3 vertical sections. Example during the invitational. (15%) vertical bar camera of Artosis, 70% vertical bar of the board, (15%) veritcal bar camera of Kripp. That way you don't ahve to swap between players as they'll always be on screen. I think it adds a lot to see a reaction to a legendary being dropped, etc.
I didn't really mind the fact that they switched players screens, It helped to keep track of whose cards were in front of you, if they showed all the cards on one screen someone's would be upside down which would be irritating or they would have to create a side view which is weird.
The thing that really threw me off was that the board itself kept shifting left and right when they switched players because they kept artosis's player cam on the left side of the screen and kripp's on the right. Example below...
l Art Cam l Board Cam l
l Board Cam l Krip Cam l
Having to shift your actual viewpoint left an right was pretty irritating, idk why they didnt just keep the player cam on the same side of the screen and just swap them back and forth.

Yeah, I hear you on that.... it was kinda strange at times. I liked that the player cam was on the corresponding side of the stage, but I think an overlay that didn't move the game board would have been a little better.

I do like this idea if they highlighted the player cam of whoever's board cam was showing. It would cut down on confusion if you started watching mid-game.

Well it doesn't have to be upside down. They can make the cards on the top side look normal on the spectator mode. Also switching players didn't really bother me but it would be better if player cams were on another screen or it was actualy showing both in the same time.

Perhaps a good compromise would be a toggle switch that would show/hide either or both players hands. Just like Starcraft's observer mode, sometimes it is interesting to see the board from one player's perspective and then switch to the other player immediately after. This gives flexibility for the spectator to customize it to their liking. This will also avoid the issue of having to swapping screens between two players' screens in tournaments.
It wouldn't prevent observer cheating, but it would be a godsend for game casting.
As for the split screens, it was really nice to clearly see both starting hands/mulligans, but I agree that the repeated final action seen when switching screens felt awkward.

I think spectators shouldn't be able to see the player's hands, hope spectator mode is made that way.
Well of course people can abuse it if it is in-game spectator mode but what we are talking about under this thread is tournament play.
