I've been playing Hearthstone for nearly 6 years. In that time it has become probably one of my favourite games of all time, right alongside Street Fighter II Champion Edition and Tekken (very different games I know!). Over the years I've spent a lot of money on this game, probably close to or even more than $3,000 to date. I'm definitely in the whale category.
So why am I making this thread? What's the point? Well, I honestly don't know. I suppose this is one of those 'I'm outta here' threads so I fully expect the customary 'don't let the door hit you on your way out' or 'who are you again' replies below.
But I do genuinely think that I am done with Hearthstone. The game just doesn't excite me anymore. I mainly play constructed and have zero interest in Arena or Duels. BG's is OK but not something I really enjoy. Constructed has become unfun for me. I am good enough at the game to know how many misplays I make during a normal ladder game and I just don't have the time to play enough to 'git gud'. Hearthstone has become a frustration for me and the frustration now outweighs the enjoyment I used to get from the game.
More than that, constructed has started to feel very samey to me regardless of what cards are in rotation. The classes seem to play the same way they always have, doing the same things with new cards.
I've always said that I'll stop playing when the game is no longer enjoyable and I think that time has finally arrived. I am lucky enough to have disposable income to spend as much as I like on the game so money isn't the issue. It's just that spending upwards of $500 a year on something you no longer enjoy makes no sense. It's a shame because I have a great collection including tons of golden legendaries from the times before Standard. Plus I'm sitting on about 120k gold and over 12k dust. I guess my account will stay like that, frozen in time, waiting for me to log back in again one day. Maybe I’ll get a good welcome back deck when / if I do!
The e sports side of HS is something I've always enjoyed and I will probably keep following it at least in the short term.
Anyway, I just felt that I should write this seeing as I've visited Hearthpwn every single day for nearly 6 years. I'm not bashing HS in any way and I have zero interest in trying another online card game.
I've enjoyed being a small part of the forum and wish you all the best of luck with your future pack openings. And may the RNGods be kind to you.
Well written, I'm feeling the same but I'll try to make myself play only twice a week (I'll uninstall mobile app, and play only on PC)
I have a great account too and I'm thinking if I play once or twice a week I'll still be getting most of the cards (by solving 9 quests a week) and having fun when rotations hit, but as you said it's always samey - almost every new expansion feels less fun than the last and it's just about time to stop playing all together.
I also spent some money on the game but I don't regret it, its been a great game, I'm just exhausted of it.
I really want to see what are the changes in classic set this year and it's still fun when meta changes so I'll stick around for that. But after that it's a whole year until next true rotation so who knows maybe I'll disappear completely throughout this year too...
man, I feel the same... playing since BETA and now i think the moment is arrived also for me. I watched the entire new mini set and i didnt have any excitement..and the same thing happened the last expansion. Often I find the custom cards/set/class created by some random player more interesting than what blizzard gives us. Same mechanic, nothing new... Concerning the ladder, it is very boring and full of aggro. Wild infested with resurrecting Priest and secret mage.
The fun isn't here anymore for me, so i ll follow you. Hope to come back to the game in the next future.
There are only so many new mechanics and cards that can be introduced before stuff gets repeated so I'm not surprised its gone a little stale after six years.
Maybe take a few months off, play some other games and see how you feel. It should freshen up after rotation.
I took a couple of months out recently to focus on a backlog of PS4 games and it really helped me fall in love with HS again. I've only been playing since KoFT though.
Good luck out there and maybe see you by the hearth in future.
I've always been curious about those people who "need" to type the classic/meme comments such as "You won't be missed" or "None gives a fuck" in these kind of threads (not even going to quote them). I somehow feel bad for these poor souls, cause holy shit I can't help but feeling sorry for someone who needs to be disrespecful/mean on the internet to feel good, or cool, or whatever. I mean, you gotta be really fucked up if that's your thing. Others even vote up those comments. It's like a really pussy style bullying. Anonymity in internet brings out the worst in us, cause I'm 120% sure these randoms wouldn't have the "courage" to be that mean-cocky in person. Sometimes I just wish I could slap'em and say "hey kid, please don't be like that, just tell me what's wrong with you, I'm hear to listen", even if I would never actually resort to violence. Guess I'm getting old, and also feel the need to type this crap that none cares about. The cycle continues.

Exactly. Gotta love all of these fanboys who don't understand it's a bad thing for the game when players leave.
I understand your frustration. Smash and Hearthstone are primarily the two games I have found that consistently hold my interests but I have had rough patches with Hearthstone, especially lately, that I just don't enjoy the game like I used to. I've found that a break from it actually helps more than anything. Take some time off and jump back in during the new expansion that comes after the mini. You will find it more refreshing. It's kind of like not hearing a song for a while and then going back weeks or months later and listening to it again. Best of luck to you. Have a good one.
when you netdecking, you get bored quickly, haha.but if u get a habbit playing memes and non meta decks , this game doesnt age at all :) and even memeing all the time,i still get diamond5 at the end of month . oh well .. about the frustration , i cannot agree more..especially when its just obvious so many times how blizzard decides a winner no matter what and how you play :)

The trolls aside, it just happens with games man. It’s like people who have played wow for over a decade. It often goes from being new and exciting to just chasing the magic you once felt.
I quit hearthstone a year ago (still play bgs because it’s just the best game on tablet and I enjoy it enough). But I remember what it was like getting the beta key. It was enchanting. It was an amazing feeling, and this persisted for quite some time. Around 2017-2018, it just started to decay for me.
New mechanics came about, but the magic didn’t. Once the meta settles, you’re essentially just locked into what’s performing and what’s not. You realize that a great deal of the cards in the game are useless, and homebrews are fun until you just lose the majority of the games because they’re just worse than the meta decks.
But the loss of “the magic” is what did it in for me. New expansions were exciting for a week, as opposed to months back in the day. Most “fun looking” archetypes and mechanics just ended up being bad, and the hype surrounding these mechanics just died, along with the interest.
I feel for you, its understandable to be done with a game after so many years. I had my dick hard since first introduction of the game and nowadays I only play BG. Even tho its so much faster to get to legend compared to earlier days, I just cant stand the ladder reseting every month.
I am sure u will at some point come back to this game, just as much as we return to WoW etc

I've played for 3 years, took a 2 year break and now I'm back - the game's fun again. I bet I'll get sick of it again soon but I'll be back later :)
Cared enough to respond huh.
