[* Yes, that's clickbait. Check the video below, and comments for a bit of context for that number.]
I don't always play janky Reno questline hunter. Or janky Knuckles hunter. Or janky Marsh Queen hunter. Sometimes, I like to play the tempo game with little beasts. This deck uses a lot of cards that have seen just about zero play during their time in Standard: Leatherworking Kit, Snake Trap, Shadehound, and Rats of Extraordinary Size.
But add in the new, awesome ZOMBEEEES!!!, and we're drawing (and buffing) beasts, and playing Huntsman Altimor on curve, trying to stick one good board for a Shadehound, or Hope of Quel'Thalas lethal.
We also have lots of new (old) beasts (mechs) to play with; let's see if we can take advantage of some new synergies: Click-Clocker, K9-0tron, and Gorillabot A-3.
Good mulligans should be pretty obvious, but are somewhat match-up dependent. I really like Leatherworking Kit into Zombees, especially vs Shaman, where the bees can snipe the early Goldshire Gnoll. Also Click-Clocker into K9, or Amalgam of the Deep, into Gorillabot is a good tempo hand. If on the Coin, think about keeping Hawkstrider Rancher, if you can land it safely on Turn 2.
This deck is refreshing and fun. I'm still tinkering with it; if you have ideas please share in the comments. Here are a few games from a 16-4 run I had with a slightly modified version of the deck at the end of February. The selection of games demonstrates that the deck isn't just a one-trick pony. See the comments for more detail on this run.
I've been having a lot of success with Castle Kennels, It gives you a lot of options when you have Hawkstrider Rancher on board to rush in the 1/1s.
I like the hunter location a lot. I haven't tried it in the deck, but you're right about options. And sometimes it's not the rush, but a little extra damage that can go face that makes the difference.
Okay, I just recorded 20 games, and I'll upload some video, but before I do, I want to brag a little bit:
I want to note I had about 50% win rate overall in the D5-1 meta, and was unable to push through to legend with this deck. Every time I climbed close to D2, the I ran into a wall of Frost DK's, and dropped back down. Ultimately I made legend with the quest hunter recommended in the latest VS report.
If Frost DK gets nerfed a bit as suspected, I think this deck is a legitimate option to climb.
I'll edit the video and upload later today or tomorrow.
Thanks! always loved tempo and zoo type hunter decks especially with the Shadehound. But i really dont feel well with the gorilla Mechpack thing. k9 doesnt really submerch useful 1 drops since best outcome is playing 1 of your 2 clickclockers on turn 1 already and i want the springpaw battlecry.
maybe switch to some more 1drops and cut out gorilla for some batty guest or that peasant for card draw.
OR cut the springpaws for that 1/3 Mistake, good stats, k9 1 drop and synergizes with your mechpack even more plus also beast type synergies.
Thanks for the comment. You may be right about K9 and Gorilla, but here's what I was thinking:
K9: Yes, I'm not getting full advantage of K9, but I'm trying to leverage its new "beast" status. Since the deck doesn't have card draw except for Leatherworking Kit, the dredge is more important than than the summon. Usually, I play K9 knowing what I want to play next turn. Getting Infuse targets in hand is particularly important for this deck. However, I am testing Emerald Skytalon, largely so I can kill Arms Dealers.
Before posting this deck list, I did try Mistake and Batty Guest, but didn't feel like they contested the board well enough, particularly against DK's. Peasant, not being a beast, and being so easy for DK's to clear, isn't really an option.
Gorillabot: Beside the mech and beast synergies, I like this card for the value, again, because this deck doesn't have a lot of card draw. Gorilla can give me a bridge to Turn 5 Shadehound. The big way this deck wins games is by presenting threats on board every turn, until the opponent fails to clear. Same reason I have Amalgam of the Deep in the Deck, really.
At any rate, you guys have inspired me to record some gameplay. I will share it here soon-ish.
yes, i played your list and it quite comes out better than my suggestions. i still have cut the pack mules for the Mistakes tho. Also Emerald Skytalon is a huuuge tip vs Arms Dealer nice,l thanks ! As u say above at higher ranks vs Frost DK its over but im cutting my way through refreshed new month ranks like a hot knive through butter
Thanks, Skye; that means a lot.
I love your decks, they are so fun and different. I've really been enjoying playing with them. Please keep making more!
