My goal with the release of DoD was to find a deck to optimally utilize Kanrethad Ebonlocke as greedily as possible. Shuffling multiple copies of Kanrethad Prime ruins the highlander synergies, so Cubelock seemed the most viable option.

The result is this deck. One of the win conditions is to use Expired Merchant to gain multiple copies of N'Zoth, the Corruptor, which generates more copies of Kanrethad, while another one is to use Carnivorous Cubes on Kanrethad rather than on your demons.

In short, whereas old Cubelocks typically resurrected 1-2 waves of demons, with this deck you could easily do it half a dozen times. This makes Voidlord a catastrophic card to run, as Voidwalkers dilute your graveyard much faster. While there's an ongoing debate as to what combination of Enhanced Dreadlords and Voidlords Cubelock should run, in this version 2 Enhanced Dreadlords is the only option.

Some other differences to more optimized decks:

These changes are merely due to those cards being fun to play - Dark Skies, Sense Demons and Zilliax might definitely boost the win rate.

Mulligan and game plan are similar to other decks with some key differences:

  • This deck is stupidly greedy, and you even have an edge in fatigue. Don't get impatient or take the offensive role too soon.
  • You don't have Zilliax - value heal and removal both in mulligan and when considering resource management.

While the deck is purposefully unoptimized, I have at least managed to take it to Platinum 10 so far. It has difficulties against Quest/Tempo Mage, and I haven't run into Demon Hunters yet so I can't confirm that match up, but otherwise it feels like this deck holds up into most of the meta. Against combo, you need to remember to prioritize adding as many Mal'Ganises to the resurrect pool as possible.
