BlizzConline 2022 Cancelled - Reimagining Blizzcon
Blizzard just announced that the BlizzConline that was planned for February 2022 is being cancelled. There will still be announcements and updates for games!
Quote from BlizzardTo the Blizzard community,
We’ve decided to take a step back and pause on planning the previously announced BlizzConline event scheduled for early next year. This was a tough decision for all of us to make, but it’s the right one.
Any BlizzCon event takes every single one of us to make happen, an entire-company effort, fueled by our desire to share what we create with the community we care about so much. At this time, we feel the energy it would take to put on a show like this is best directed towards supporting our teams and progressing development of our games and experiences.
Additionally, we would also like to take the time to reimagine what a BlizzCon event of the future could look like. The first BlizzCon was held 16 years ago, and so much has changed in the time since—most notably, the multiple ways in which players and communities can come together and feel like they are a part of something bigger. Whatever the event looks like in the future, we also need to ensure that it feels as safe, welcoming, and inclusive as possible. We’re committed to continual communication with our players, and we see BlizzCon playing a big role in that going forward. We’re excited about what we’ll do with the event when we revisit it in the future.
One more thing we wanted to make clear: even though we aren’t holding BlizzConline in February, we’ll still be making announcements and updates for our games. We’re proud of our teams and the progress they’ve made across our games. We have a lot of exciting upcoming news and releases to share with you. You’ll continue hearing about those through our franchise channels, with the talented people on the BlizzCon team playing a part in supporting these efforts.
We’ll miss seeing you, but don’t worry. We’ll be back together soon.
"We’ve decided to take a step back and pause" [and] "we would also like to take the time to reimagine what a BlizzCon event of the future could look like."
**real meaning...we ran out of new shift to do and we've got nothing exciting right now.
"We’re excited about what we’ll do with the event when we revisit it in the future"
**real meaning...this event is too expensive to justify it's existence...especially since we don't have any great new games to announce that justifies the massive marketing expense, but someday we'll think of a reason to spend all that marketing money on something.
They are reimagining new ways to giggity groupies
Blizzard ded confirmed.
Not quite yet but they start to smell funny.
This.
Let's face it. Blizzard needs to do Warcraft IV - plain and simple.
Thinking there will ever be a Warcraft 4
After the Warcraft 3 Refunded disaster?
1. There are no competent developers left to make such a game.
2. RTS games can't be overmonetized with microtransactions. Pay once, play forever? Kotick has already vetoed the game.
3. Activision TOS change destroyed custom games which is a big reason why many loved Warcraft and Starcraft.
4. They would cut chat from the game as part of their "No one can offend anyone" gameplay direction which would be unacceptable.
5. Warcraft story is a giant clusterfuck already at this point, but anyone who doesn't like MMOs and thus hasn't played World of Warcraft would be completely lost if they just kept going from WoW for Warcraft 4. World of Warcraft's story would have to be ignored, and there's no way they'd do that at this point. A massive retcon or reset is necessary, but they are too invested and it would undermine WoW.
They don’t have the talent required to do that anymore, unfortunately.
They just realised they fired everyone who was going to organise/speak at the event
The terrible, empty, nonsense PR bullcrap one-liner of our times.
They make it sound like it's going to return as a storytime show for special needs children
"There will still be announcements and updates for games!"
- Hearthpwn, panicking.
Company his just spiraled downhill after the Activision acquisition. The exchange of player satisfaction for greed was apparent early on.
Blizzard has gotten by on nothing more than their name, and the time investment of their dedicated player base. They recognized that many of their players were essentially “trapped” in their products, and exploited that to the highest degree.
I will always appreciate what the company created in the beginning. But I cannot forgive them for what they turned it into in the end.
This is not really true because Overwatch, HotS and also HS where created after the merge and OW and HotS where not really heavy monetized at all.
There’s not a massive need to monetize those games (though they did have loot crates as well) with how much money hearthstone makes them.
I miss the days when blizzcon was a huge event that everyone loved
But that was legit almost 10 years ago at this point lol
not 10 years ago. It was 2019 I think the the Diablo Immortal debacle. Since then everything when downhill. So not "10 years ago".
