He was a Designer on Hearthstone Live Content development, featuring things like Fireside Gatherings, In-game Events and mainly Tavern Brawls
These are his own words about his departure:
Quote from Joe MagdalenaHey everyone! I have some big news: I am leaving Blizzard. I’m still going to be making games, but it’s going to be very different from what I'm doing now. It's a huge opportunity to do something amazing. I’ll be talking more about that in the coming weeks. (thread)
I’m very proud of the work that I’ve done these past 14 years. I worked in WoW QA for the first 8 years, and got to spend these last 6 years on the Hearthstone team, as QA and then as a designer. I’ve grown a lot and it’s been a joy to put my own personal stamp on these games.
Blizzard has been such a huge part of my life – literally, my whole adult life. I started at Blizzard on the night shift the day before my 19th birthday. I’ve met and worked with so many great people. I’m proud to call some of the best game devs in the industry my friends.
To everyone at Blizzard: It’s been a privilege you’re who made working for this company great. I can’t wait to see what you all do next – and you can be darn sure I’ll be at the next BlizzCon!
I want to thank the whole Hearthstone community. I’ve loved talking with all of you and I’ve so appreciated the support you’ve given my ideas (even the wonky ones). I’ll miss giving you insights about brawls and my process, but I hope you’ll stick around for the next chapter.
Thanks for your time, thanks for the memories, thanks for everything. Well met, well played.
His first official video on Hearthstone channel were Developer Insights: The Season of Rastakhan
We wish you the best in your future adventures JOE! Thanks for your amazing work on this game!
Rip. Will he be missed is the question that only the future brawls will show, i guess..
I've literally been here longer than you, friend. And as someone already said, just because something has been one way doesn't mean you have to like it or accept it.
Tavern brawls and the special events are the best part of the game, the free part and the most fun for real .Hearthstone lost one of the best guys :(
Adventures are the best part of the game in my book :D
This community disgusts me. Motherless, ungrateful, entitled (man-)childs typing aggressively behind their PC's, as the fearsome and brave keyboard warriors they are. You have no understanding of how the world works, with your sad and meaningless existence. You dare not even think about how your actions can influence others, or how your unwarranted hatred is exactly what is wrong with today's gaming community. Maybe it's not even about daring, maybe it's just an incapability of having anything in your belittered brain that can understand a thought process, because it's so cluttered with all the intelligent Twitch emotes, meme-oneliners and bad Reddit-jokes.
If you are guilty of calling names and using less-than-mediocre slurs to diminish this man's achievements, because you think everything that is wrong with Hearthstone is solely the fault of this one man, you will never amount to anything. Joe will undoubtedly move to yet another successful role at a developer, while you'll move no inch further from your urine-reeking, vile-stenching basement.
I just went to the first thought that popped into my mind, so this is just a rough first idea. There are plenty of hearthstone veterans who really love the creative and competative metas of the many constructed tavern brawls.
Miniature warfare, Top 3, Six shooter,Battle of the Bans, Clockwork card dealer, Hearth of the sunwell. These were all brawls that let you go wild, and i was always able to come up with homebrew decks that had a positive winrate agianst the 3 most popular netdecks. I love these brawls so much i usually end up with 200+ wins at the end of the week.
Sadly 70% of the tavern brawls are premade decks with a ton of rng. I understand this is because Blizzard don't want new players to have a negative experience, getting totally destroyed by player with a big collection.
So how about you launch a choice between 2 different tavern brawls every week. One is a creative constructed brawl with wild cards. The other is premade deck. You could label one as Expert and the other as Normal. Whichever brawl you finished first, would give you that weeks pack reward, you would only get it once, like today. I have never had problems with wait times for tavern brawls, so splitting up the players would hardly be a real problem in my eyes.
This way you would keep a much larger % of your userbase happy at all times, instead of alienating half of your active players every week.
Thats just my 2 cents, what do you guys think? Would be nice to hear from both newbies and veterans.
They could also occasionally let us vote for the next Tavern Brawl. This guarantees the Tavern Brawl will be one a majority of the players will enjoy.
Wow look at the comments here. You kids are why this community is considered awful. Why be pricks to him? He was just a guy who helped make the game. You act like he’s the sole reason for your problems with the game.
take your stupid twitch emotes and personal insults for him elsewhere. Grow up. This isn’t twitch. OMEGALUL indeed.
You must not have been on Hearthpwn very long...
The good old "It's fine because it's us, and everyone needs to accept it, because it's the way we've done things since forever"-argument.

Can't you read?
"He was a Designer on Hearthstone Live Content development, featuring things like Fireside Gatherings, In-game Events and mainly Tavern Brawls"
Does that sound like it has anything to do with the core game?

should be true right? it was written, i swear.
Don't be an idiot mortoz.
the direction is right fs
I was a janitor at Blizzard HQ for 19 years. Sadly, I have replaced my last roll of TP and now it's time to move on. I will always cherish my time in the Blizzard Water Closets where countless expansions were conceived.
W H OMEGALUL ?? :D
i don’t care i don’t who he is
Is this one of the guys that keeps putting up those crossroads brawls?
