Well, you understand it wrong, because "every expansion through year of the dragon" explicitly means "expansions in year of the dragons and every expansion that came before them.
You know, also looking, Almost all of the old rogue jade cards are common, as is shadowstep. Might be some kind of deck core there.
There are not enough common control tools (note that discover cards will discover commons, too), I expect zoo or face type decks in this kind of twist.
it will be a fairly tempo driven format, but you can play defensively, even if you are mostly relying on minions. There are some fairly big taunts, reactive battlecries and rush minions in the allowed sets, not much burn and a few sources of healing, meaning that late comebacks might also be possible (Note: I undertand it as "Year of the Dagon + Core, not "Everything up to Year of the Dragon").
I assume some won't be able to cope with the shock when they find out that they need to include more than 12 minions to their deck, and not even half of them come with a Discover effect. But if nothing else, the next Twist season will be:
a) not a repeat of a previous meta
b) very different from Standard and Wild
c) BY FAR the cheapest format the game has ever had, with no single deck costing more than 1200 dust (likely even less, since Core is also allowed).
I expect queue times of 2+ minutes after three days into the season, simply because people will treat it as a novelty that lacks appeal, especially when there are no streamers and no support on any sites like HSreplay etc. People just don't care about it.
But that's fine and t I'm actually looking forward to it. It will be the first time I can actually play ANY deck I want, I can play classes that are otherwise unplayable for me, and I'm happy that this season is a bit more like what I hope Twist to be, even though it's still somewhat tame.
Will probaby be my main mode for February, unless the meta really is just consisting of two decks.
Zoo is going to have a rough time playing against Mage. Mage has a lot of good shit to keep aggro under control (a lot of good board clears are common, chief among them Flamestrike) and they have access to Cold Case, Arcane Artificer and Ice Barrier for Armor. A lot of players are going to hate Antique Healbot, that's going to be an automatic two-of in every control deck.
Twist is back on the menu!
I wish all classes had excavate legendaries, they've been pretty fun to play with.
The Twist season seems pretty boring to me, but it's obviously amazing for those on a budget.
Sorry can someone clarify my understanding of this? Paladin did not have any Excavate cards or a legendary excavate card, how will this work? Does this mean 3+/6 dual class cards that Paladin will be in will have a legendary reward?
All the classes who had Excavate, had 2 excavate cards + a card for when you have excavated twice, with some nice effect. They also all had a Excavate token for Legendary, which they got from the 4th dig.
Tokens are free and we already saw Blizz add 3 other tokens, so that part seems obvious.
Then Shaman and Paladin have a dual class between them, so Blizz can just give them 2 Dual class cards that excavate.
Then they each have 1 non-shared card, which is probably their Excavate Twice card.
Then Paladin still has a dual class with DK, and Shaman with Warrior, for some added fun beyond getting Excavate.
That seems pretty reasonable?
I would actually guess the final legendary for the expansion is Finley, either for dual paladin and shaman, or as a legendary for shaman (to finish the trend of giving them to the other class they had for tombs of terror.) That would mean at least one of those cards doesn't fit, but maybe a shaman warrior card will be an excavate twice reward?
That would give warrior 2 of those options, that might be too much.
I like your Finley suggestion though, I forgot he needs to be added and Paladin or Shaman is the perfect spot. Or Paladin AND shaman. But that would mean he likely needs to be excavate related, which would be an odd fit. And there's no murlocs in Deepholm so his role as a Murloc enabler is probably not there either.
Then again Blizz routinely does things that defy lore and logic, so who knows. xD
Maybe he'll be a mix of them. Like a 1 mana 1/3 with "if your deck has no duplicates, excavate twice" or something like that.
Probably not, because that would be the opposite of thematic. But it's funny to think about.
It won't be Finley. This miniset is the first time Reno and Elise met Brann, Finley is gonna be next xpac almost certainly.
I thought they would give one excavate treasures to DH, since the class has no real deck at the moment. Opportunity gone.
Blizzard is making cards like year ahead of relaese (at least the stuff like dual class excavate and highlander were definitely decided long time ago) so they don't make miniset around current meta
Ooooooo... Pauper format for Twist? That sounds lovely.
probably going to be ruled by whoever can make the most zoo-ey aggro tempo deck. Also Paladin dudes
That or mass generation.
Mage can spam AOE crap for days, and don't forget that the burst finishers for zoo decks are usually rares, so no UTH.
Mage AoE in Common:
Flamestrike
Arcanosaur*
Fire Sale
Chatty Bartender*
Cone of Cold
Shooting Star
Flame Ward*
*Conditional
Zoo in the traditional sense isn't a burst deck, its an efficient minion deck. The power level of common allows for the slower snowball of that playstyle to thrive.
