I gotta say I'm not that excited about the spells so far... My biggest issue with Battlegrounds is 100 second turns with nothing to do besides playing a single card.
I'd like to see more economy cards like Fleet Admiral Tethys that actually allow you to do a bunch of stuff, rather than just spending 5 gold to give a minion devine shield.
I think it's problematic as it could be a win more card. You'll buy it when you are ahead.
I don't hate BGs or Duels but at least they should make them optional download for mobile players so the game runs smoother. Just saying.
There are 200-ish Battlegrounds cards and 5000-ish regular Hearthstone cards, I wouldn't expect that to make any noticable difference
Matador = leeroy replacement?
strike oil? i thought the excavation theme of this expansion is
goldazerite rushThe choices of art for those new typeless minions is a little odd. Dare I say, cost-cutting.
I don't hate it, but also, it doesn't look "Disneyesque" which seems to irk a loud group of the community.
Matador looks like an older card game, and Worgen needs either high contrast or high detail (feels detached / background)
The Worgen art is the official release art for when Worgen were introduced in World of Warcraft, I'm pretty sure.
A lot of them are reused art from tokens, adventures and Blizzard stock images. Clearly to reduce costs. Art is paid for and HS uses a lot of art. Already in Titans you could see some Forge cards that are just small edits to the original art, which is much cheaper.
Mad Matador for example is the token that summons Mor'shan Watch Post ( Watchful Grunt ) but replacing the weapons for a cape, But some others are the exact same art without edits.
Actually from all this cards, there is only 6 spells that don't use reused art. But Between the sets, the signatures and the skins is understandable that they have to save money for other modes.
This seems busted:
Ramp in BGs, not like it breaks constructed regularly or anything... xD
Did somebody say oil?
Freedom Intensifies
Having an Accord-o-Tron or Dreadbeard on your board isn't game breaking, and this is very similar. This doesn't take a board space and its a tier lower than normal, but it's also zero tempo. Doesn't seem like a big deal.
Costs a lot of tempo to help you on turn 9 and on, unless I'm understanding it's effect wrong of course.
All in all whether it is effective or not will have to be seen, but it does something that was clearly a goal with this Spell introduction: Change how you spend your gold. With 1 more gold each turn after you play this, you break the usual rhythm of buying and selling and upgrading, cause you suddenly have more Gold each turn, and 1 more gold every turn once you hit max gold.
This in addition to the Spells themselves which cost varying amounts of gold. It's clear the team felt that what would be the best long term development for the game was more variation in Gold spending in each turn. And I agree, I think more variation and breaking a lot of the usual "curves" is a good thing.
Tempo is extremely important in BGs. Spending 3 gold to ramp might well be too slow, as you're going to be losing the following battles unless you're far enough ahead in board that you can afford to spend 3 Gold not developing your board.
This spell can easily throw the game if you buy it too early, or if you're too weak to afford the tempo hit.
