On a day where we were expecting news about Balance changes, we were instead greeted by news trickling out that Blizzard is apparently restructuring the Hearthstone team and that people have gotten laid off unexpectedly. We shared posts below by one of the Hearthstone Engineers, a Senior Producer and a tweet by one of the Hearthstone Devs.
Update: Our colleagues at MMORPG.com got an official statement from Blizzard:
Quote from Blizzard“Organizational changes were made to the Hearthstone team; as a result a small number of roles have become redundant. We want to thank these employees for their many contributions."

As a kid working for Blizzard looked like the absolute dream job. How young and naieve I was
AAA gaming company?
I thought they were a small indie company.
please tell me they designed United in Stormwind.
Thats Shizzard for you
It's not a good thing to lie in your resume that you worked at an 'AAA' company...God speed, don't let the door hit you on your way out and let's hope that HS sees better days than this guys...
You're on the wrong sub I'm afraid, people here defend Blizzard employees like their life depends on it.
Hearthstone standard mode is at it's worst state atm according to public stats but then again that won't stop them from trashing your opinion about change.
We've seen better days for those who stand by 10 years already and experience the whole lot of this game.
Now i see some people pointing fingers at each other on whose fault is it, the fault goes to the label which called Blizzard I'm afraid and no matter how many dislikes you put on me it can't change that fact or the numbers on this matter.
Lets hope for a better future to one of my favourite games Hearthstone.
Welcome Microsoft.
Kind of messed up, especially the dude who's been there 15y, to be laid off without notice is rough.. hope the employees bounce back from this
As a European, the US labor laws are batshit crazy for allowing stuff like that. I'm grateful employers aren't able to pull shit like that over here.
The notice period in the US is another level compared to ours in EU. Btw I don't think that a person that worked 15ys @Blizzard will have a hard time finding a new position in the US Market (you cannot compare 2 markets so differents imho)
I wonder if the restructure is due to the upcoming buyout, trying to make everything as lean and clean as they can before Microsoft takes over? The orders to restructure could even be coming from MS if their leadership saw some excess in staffing. Let Blizzard do the dirty work for them.
EDIT: I’m almost positive that’s what’s happening after seeing an update that it was a total of ten jobs cut. Simply cutting redundancies prior to completing the buyout, which passed the UK regulations board just recently.
I feel bad for the employees, but I think the team needed to be reformed. It was clear from the recent card power inflation and miscellaneous nerfs that the team was not up to the task.
It has nothing to do with the team. Do you really think they have the full power and freedom to be creative and do what is good for the game? Do you think they want to release expansion after expansion after expansion of extremely dubious quality, just to keep the monetization flowing, or they would prefer a slower pace which would give them time and space to provide a better product and service?
It all comes from the greedy big wigs at the top - they are the ones who managed to turn Blizzard from one of the best gaming companies to Bli$$ard - one of the worst.
Shuffling the teams below will have zero impact on quality improvement when the culture is toxic and the values of the company boil down to 'moar money'.
I understand that management is vicious and the people who were laid off are not to blame. However, as long as we feel stuck with Hearthstone in its current state, I think some change, even in this unwilling form, makes sense.
when is blizzard getting laid off?
Stop nerfing your employees and start nerfing your cards.
Finally some big changes
JUST MAYBE they'll do the same to the Diablo 4 team too!

Beat me to the punch 😅
