Flamestrike exists, deals 5 damage to up to 7 minions, and sees 0 play.
Trial by Fire deals 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 damage to up to 5 minions, and people think this play see play as a board clear ?
The only questions that remain are : Are the stats worth it to play proactively for 7 mana, and is it worth playing mediocre fire spells for fire synergy.
Fuck your divine shield!!
I think it's okay, not amazing but very playable.
I think it's a considerably better Scale of Onyxia. It's two fewer minions, but while one is weaker than the Whelps and another has the same attack (but more health), the other three are incrementally better. In total it deals 15 damage compared to 14 from Scale, and you'll often have a 3-5 health minion or two left over, which is much more powerful than having two or three 1-health Whelps.
Considering the fact that Scale of Onyxia was one of the most powerful cards in the game for the two years it was in standard, I think it's safe to say this will see a ton of play. And I didn't even talk about all the synergies Warrior has with Rush minions.
Scale of Onyxia benefits a lot from ramp and is in a class with extremely few board clear, the total opposite of warrior, lots of board clear and 0 ramp. This is plain 7 mana at best on turn 7 or 6 with coin. This is so much worse than scales man.
The only reason you would ever play this is if you need another fire spell in your deck for synergy.
And it's okay-ish to play proactively to build a board.
But look at Flamestrike which is not played because it's too slow and weak for turn 7, and tell me again Trial by Fire is a good board clear.
6 mana
Yep, I knew it
very flexible removal and tempo card you can deal up to 15 damage or f.e. only 6 damage and leave a weird board to remove for opponent.
with fire you can also revive the phoenix or do some other fire synergies or with minion dies infuse synergiy.
Question is will it be good enough for 7 mana in 2023, this is hard to evaluate, depends how fast or value oriented the meta will be.
Its not the best card but also not a worse card, and these kind of cards always saw play in the past
3/4
I wonder what happens if you use an AoE that kills all of them at once. DO they all die at once, or does only 1 die and the rest gets +1/+1 and takes the AoE damage to remain with 1 health?
since they are deathrattles they cant buff something that died from the same AOE, there would be a case for if they instead had an effect like "whenever a friendly Val'Kyr Champion takes lethal damage gain +1/+1"
Although this is Blizzard were talking about so maybe consistency is not something we should expect
Ah yeah, that would be consistent with other effects. Didn't quite realize it being deathrattles. That makes sense.
Ah f**k it's the return of MATH
When all Valkyr die they can deal up to 1+2+3+4+5 = 15 damage. Let's compare with similiar cards of other classes:
Hunter/mage: Star align. Random damage distribution, lower manacost, can be greatly amplified by spd.
Druid: 7 mama summon 7 2/1 drakes, you can hit more targets but some valkyrs can survive after rush.
Shaman: Volcano, the floor is lava, can't say much about them, they are bad cards now
Warrior always had best removal tools, and now it gets spell that is much worse than Hunter's removal. Yeah, it's minion-based, but imo it's not gonna synergize with other enrage cards, the cost is too high for that little effort.
I don't know if thats is a fair comparison. Star Power (Which I believe is the card you are talking about) is random, and dosn't leaves any kind of body behind.
A more fair comparison would be with Expendable Performers , 14 damage splited at your choise that can live a bunch of tokens behind. You could use this and deal 6 damage, and leave two 4/4s in the board, or deal 10 and summon a 5/5, is a lot more flexible than Star Power. Is basically in 1 card having Command the Illidari and Rotgill at the same time.
And is a Fire spell, so you could also add to the total another 4 damage from Thori'belore.
I wonder if there are other ways to generate Valks alongside this.
