Quote from Scooterpie >>Hey there people.
I haven't been playing this game for long, a couple of months, and I started as a f2p player. When Witchwood arrived I bought the bundle and I've been able to rack up quite a few decks that work for me now, heal-lock, odd paladin, quest warrior and spell hunter. I'm up to rank 7 and really enjoy the game.
However, since I have been finishing decks my gold is stacking up, I'm at 3,000 gold now and can't decide what to do. Buy packs? If so, which ones? Enter arena for pack + gold back? I usually go 5-7 wins in Arena.
What would you guys do?
You passed the first priority of a F2Per: getting established with decent decks. Which is great because that's the hardest part. So relax, you're past the largest hurdle.
So now comes the second task, getting into a good rhythm so you can keep up with expansions. Which is great timing since:
1. We're about to have one in one month so no long wait.
2. You already have a good stash of gold on you at 3k
3. We're going through the fire festival so you'll have a good bit more than 3k on hand when the expansion hits.
So yay. Wish my start at the game was that smooth :p.
In any case the basic idea is this: your gold you should be focused on filling out your commons/rares with pack buying while your dust is relied on for getting the key epics/legendaries you need. To do the former, you look into the sets that you have the least amount of cards in and buy those. Since, in one month, that WILL be the Boomsday expansion, then you might as well go push the gold on that.
As to whether to do arena or buying Boomsday packs, arena is, by FAR for you, the more lucrative. 4 wins is the point when you earn more from the arena run than opening a pack. 5-7 is awesome for getting packs for cheap and/or dust for epics/legends. So once the expansion hits, you'll have to ask how much do you want to be efficient compared to how much you want to rank up and play new decks. No point spamming arena until you get sick of the game.
Myself I never like crafting cards until 2 weeks after the expansion to avoid "BIG HYPE for bad cards" situations so there's no point to me playing ranked early on anyway. So I spend everything on Arena until about a month after the expansion, then do "arena run, buy 1 pack, repeat" until I'm done getting packs then start saving for the next expansion.
So yeah, spam arena until you're sick of it, then go buy packs. Get at least 60 as that gets you most of the commons/rares. Again don't "try" for epics/legendaries via packs. That's what your dust is for. Whatever sets you need most of the common/rares you lack that you want.
Also learn about the pity timer and how it relates to legendaries/epics. Lots of folks use the info about that to guide what packs they buy and how much.
Lastly note that it takes about 3 months of saving gold to get 6000 if all you do is dailies. Which is about one month after the prior expansion. F2P stability is 3 months of saving, a month of spurging, followed by saving again.
So yeah, TL: DR:
Save everything until the expansion hits.
Spam arena as that's the best bang for the gold but don't ruin the game for yourself: once you don't want to run arena, stop playing it.
Open packs for rares and commons. Don't 'aim' for specific epics/legendaries by pack opening. That'll determine which set you need
Learn about the pity timer as well and how that relates to you.
