It always bugs me when i see people say stuff like this , being stuck at rank 14 for more than one year is not normall at all , i will point out some mistakes i notice on these type of players.
1. Bad mulligans - do you have a specific mulligan plan against each class? if not try to create one and write it on paper , mulligan correctly matters a ton , its the base of your game.
2. Consistently make bad decisions - hearthstone is a very simple game , just like every card game before it , its a game that is meant to be played on curve and a game where you win through superior hand advantage and field control , you achieve this with decent trading and sequencing correctly. some good rules are:
*always play slower cards first(ex. big minions) and use all your mana then play faster cards(ex. spells , buffers or charge minions)* - that way you will make bigger impact to the field on a future turn , dont overreact to threats out of panic or enthusiasm because if you do the opposite your hand will be so slow on future turns and will cause you to lose the field and eventually the game with it.
*always trade unless you are closing the game* - never give a chance to your opponent to decide a trade unless you have good reasons to do so , health and face damage are not the purpose of this game and doesnt matter , the whole purpose of card games is domination aka leading to your opponent to a state where he can no longer win , you want to take damage and in some cases a lot if it will help you achieve this , hs is a game where even a tiny advantageous trade can snowball so much and win the game , never give a chance to your opponent to lock you down instead you should be thinking how to lock him down.
*decent trading is when your card goes at least 1 on 1 with an opponent's card* - rarely you want to make worse trades than this and that is when you want to take care of a very dangerous card or you despite the bad trade you can turn it around later on , ex. you shadowbolt an imp gang boss , thats -1 hand advantage but if you have a 2/2 minion you can take care of the spawn therefore its not that bad. You want your cards to survive trades , that way you will enhance your field presence and eventually lock the opponent down and win.
3. Focus on the wrong things especially deckbuilding - deckbuilding is not the problem until rank 3+ (pushing for legend) or top 500 legend (pushing for top 100) , just go to tempostorm site and copy a deck and it will work , its that simple , you should instead focus to improve your skill instead of deck at this point.
4. Overthinking things - there is no need to predict anything or stuff like that , yes in some cases you have to play around some cards(if you can afford to) or save removal but thats not the case most of the time and even then the opponent will not always have these cards so predicting something may lead to worse results. Things that you should instead think about:
*Think how you will sequence on future turns and how you will achieve field domination*
*respond to what currectly exist in the field in the best possible way that will lead you to dominate it on the current OR future turn*
Incorrect sequencing is what leads people to lose more and not because they didnt predict something , even myself i like to swarm the field a lot when i can predict a mass removal because well if they dont have it , they simply lose and the chance of them to have it can may aswell be below 50% so i have a clear edge.
5. They dont compete on online tournaments - this will allow you to play against players much higher than your rank and it may contribute to your improvement because you will see how they play.
Lastly i suggest to pick a deck that will teach you how card games are meant to be played , dont pick an aggro deck or a control/combo deck , both of these type of decks aim to win through a legit and strong but theoritically incorrect way , card games are meant to be played on curve until the last turn where you drop your big minion finisher and win with it , thats the theoritically *perfect way* to play card games and also learn them , its better for you to pick a deck with strong late game because this will allow you to focus on trading. Aggro decks always lead to the dilemma *face or trade* , combo decks are too complicated for you at this point and control decks are too reactive and complicated too.
Some good decks to learn the game are: ramp druid . midrange shaman , zoolock , midrange hunter , i believe midrange hunter is the best out of them all , its the best deck for a lower rank to learn the game.
