posted a message on What do you believe is the biggest contributing factor to existing players not returning? (POLL)

I voted discover mechanic. RNG has always existed (draw, knife juggler, etc), but there's almost no reason to play around anything because of "created by." Devs have repeatedly stated that each expansion has a keyword, and they like to keep that keyword isolated to the expansion for flavor or whatever. Yet the absolute worst, Discover, lives eternal.

I miss having to budget my answers. I miss having to play around what I anticipate my opponent will do. Now every game seems like "who can highroll the highest/fastest?" I still do dailies, but that's about it.

Played as F2P since a little before Naxx, started paying around Mean Streets, and went back F2P after Uldum. Been Legend, 6 classes over 500+ wins, whatever. (The HK protest shit, and a lack of updates/content in Overwatch also factored into my decision to go F2P)

posted a message on [STANDARD] Headed for Legend! - S59 February 2019

Finally hit legend today.  Tried once before, and failed at rank 1 3 stars.

This time I used odd rogue to 5 in the beginning of the month, went 8-7 with odd mage, then tried even pally (standard VS list) and went 31-13. I thought even pally felt great. Most games were tough or very close, but few matchups felt hopeless.

posted a message on Yes, I truly enjoy the meta right now
    Quote from Xophy >>

I agree that the meta is really diverse right now - perhaps more so than at any other point in time. The list of viable decks include in my opinion:

Maly Druid, Togwaggle Druid, Mecha'thun Druid, Token Druid, Quest Rogue, Odd Rogue, Odd Pally, Odd Warrior, Evenlock, Healzoo, Controllock, Mecha'thun Warlock, DR Hunter, Secret Hunter, Tempo Mage, Mecha'thun Priest, Resurrect Priest, APM Priest, perhaps even Shudderwock Shaman.

However, while there are a lot of different decks (and archetypes) which are playable, I can definitely understand the frustration of players: pick any of those decks above and play some ladder games ... most of the games you are either the favourite by a huge margin (say quest rogue vs any control/non combo) or clearly the underdog (e.g. any combo deck vs control lock). Basically the only exceptions to this are the midrange decks like DR Hunter (which might not be enjoyable to play for all players). Thus, most of the time the outcome of the match is solely determined by deck choice and not by the ability of the player.

I personally enjoy games the most where I can win by outplaying my opponent. That is, I'd rather have a lot of balanced matchups (e.g. 40/60 to 60/40) which are at least to some extent winnable than matchups where I will autowin/autolose more or less by default.

So while we do have a diverse meta, this does not automatically imply that the meta is also good. Also, I do not really think that this RPS-meta can be solved simply by nerfing some cards. Including a neutral combo breaker could be a first step. However, this could also lead to a pure control-meta (which I wouldn't mind personally). I guess we will have to wait what the next expansion(s) bring.

^ this. There are a lot of options for decks (good), but so many of the options are 85/15 matchups, not 60/40 (bad). So, you end up with ~50% winrates due to the variety of decks, but most matchups are blowouts one way or another. To me, this is boring.
