I think cheap combo is too enticing at the moment but I did see hotform playing ramp druid without combo last night on twitch with Thaurissan in it and he was doing reasonably well.

The rogue matchup will always be bad so I agree there's no point in Harrison for that matchup. It is good vs Hunter, Warrior, Paladin but I doubt there is room for it post brm. I already replaced Harrison with Thaurissan which seems kind of broken/op. The five drop will also be too busy in Dragon Paladin (due to Dragon Consort).

On a positive note lay on hands becomes more playable with Thaurissan. Even with one proc you can cast on 7 and cast it + bgh on turn 9 or 10. I think wild pyro may come back in control as well since you can board clear for two if you have them in hand when it goes off which actually allows you to do something substantial after clearing. But Solemn Vigil might actually be better for tempo in faster decks. Anyhow I think it's only a matter of time before nutty combo decks appear with Thaurissan so it's hard to tell what will be viable.

Cult Master was in some midrange decks at the beginning of the season but I think most people wanted to save muster for quartermaster. There are some decks that don't run quartermaster though (like that hotform list) where it might be ok. When I was playing a modded version of the hotform list I added one quartermaster. Cog Hammer is pretty good too but Muster for Battle makes the opponent often waste board clear which is nice in slower matchups. I will probably completely remove muster combo in the dragon paladin I want to play though. That 3/5 3 drop + at least one cog hammer seems pretty good for smacking aggro although again it's unclear what we will be playing against :)

vs face hunter muster can be a liability. I would rarely play it out. Shieldmasta is good vs hunter obviously (going all the way back to the last few times hunter was overpowered) but people prefer shredder since it's better in other matchups. It seems like the core cards if you want to beat face hunter is healbot, belcher, and lay on hands. In the old decks we used to use holy light but it's not necessary now that healbot exists. Guardian of Kings comes too late to matter, Other than that just make a recruit to test traps. Harrison also wins games sometimes but it's questionable to keep in the opening hand if not having early board will cause 10-15 health loss. The other card that used to be good is Ragnaros but it's kind of shit in the current meta. Honker (hogger) is also ok. if you want to go full out anti hunter.

Outside of the hunter matchup going full heal (e.g. see Hotform's paladin with double healbot, double lay on hands https://imgur.com/FVUYxYA ) can work well in longer control matches where you just bide your time to deal with their threats but vs a good player they will be conservative enough to figure out that you're stalling for a good value equality clear. Boom is a common follow up though so you want to have answers to that which doesn't always happen esp if you were playing aldor for tempo earlier.

I wasn't too impressed with this deck. I played 20 games and went 10-10 at the start of the season yesterday. Maybe it was because I ran into a disproportionate amount of rogues but even random control priests can crush it. I also tried adding blood knight since there's so many divine shields and that didn't improve it that much. One of the main problems is in games where you get all the draw in the hand - it completely handicaps you unless the opponent has loads of cards. The only class it seems to do really well against is Druid since they can't do much once you play out a hobgoblin combo.

Strifecro was also running a list with the blood knight synergy I was talking about although with squire, annoyotron and shielded minibot it could run out of steam vs fast decks or control with a lot of aoe. Makes for a good setup for bolvar though if they are silencing blood knights.

I do think he is kind of weak on turn 5 but I like him quite a bit in decks that stacks silence targets.

single turn combos (possible to split into two turns but stronger in one turn):

    - wild pyro, equality, bolvar (turn 9)

    -bolvar + faceless (turn 10)

two turn combos (play bolvar, not dealt with):

-[opponent has taunt or big board] equality, pyro, kings on bolvar go face hopefully for the finish (turn 8)

-[15 bolvar attack or weapon/board + bolvar = 15 attack] alex for kill (opposite direction of warrior of playing finisher first) (turn 9)

-bolvar + blessed champion (don't laugh I'm testing this. It's too much to run by itself with bolvar but it's almost ok with kings, or whatever other big minion) (late game since pumping bolvar usually takes time)

(sadly I've taken out wild pyro at the moment because I'm greedy with other new combos)

I think he would fit well in an updated version of Crusher's deck when/if he gets around to updating it for GvG. I've been trying to update it myself (well it's almost unrecognizable now beside divine shield to pump blood knight and kings synergy) but there's something a bit defective about my list right now in the early game (it's good vs other midrange but weak vs lots of weenies - I can't decide what combos I want to include and hedge by including one ofs that maybe make it weaker). Anyway, I've won some games using Bolvar as a two turn finisher after exhausting their silence. He rarely gets silenced unless you just play him out without baiting anything. I've been running Blessed Champion as well to combo with that but it's such a dead card that I doubt it would win more games compared to just having a generally effective card. i'm still running it for fun to pull off big bolvar finishes (or kings + blessed champion on another reasonably big minion). I pulled off some 20+ damage finishes that the opponents were not expecting - I'm hoping it's viable if I can make a list that is more effective or better draw. The original concept was to use shades as a finisher then Bolvar if that fails but it makes fighting in the mid game a bit weak and I suspect that muster + quartermaster combo is a lot better. Seems kind of counter to my deck strategy to make some reasonably big dudes that could all be used in a finisher or draw silence though - I'm torn as to what would work best to boost the effectiveness of Bolvar.

posted a message on Control Paladin vs Control Priest: How?

main reason it's tricky right now in my opinion is decks designed to beat hunter. a proper control priest will have a bit too much late game to deal with sometimes unless your deck is also slow. and you need to have answers to your own cards due to thought steal and mind control. i try to play out tyrion by turn 8 if possible due to mind control then at least I can get a weapon but several of my decks don't have enough answers (some even keep tyrion in hand to prevent thought steal).

deathrattle priest is easier , just aldor circled injured blademaster, not play into auchenai too much, clear with truesilver, try to force them to waste removal. don't play into shadow madness. don't be afraid to use holy light on minions if it leads to a board that is difficult to clear

buffadin with kings, ooze, sword of justice is actually decent vs priest since they run out of death and have trouble clearing with auchenai. shade is also ok since it can get out of auchenai clear range if played early and can't be interacted with until it's unleashed and priest has only belcher as taunt most of the time. I've won some games with shadow on board, weapon in hand, into alextraza (ran into some people actually playing mass dispel though - lol)

I still like sunfury and run it. Just not in those decks with a lot of taunts. I also like blood knight with argent squire so popular. Like 1 out of 3 games my opponent is playing it before me. If squire becomes less popular obviously it's not as good. I've changed 5 cards from Crushers deck but I still think that blood knight + kings early game is pretty solid despite the dislike for running two from some people; however scarlet crusader doesn't seem necessary. At least one of them could be leeroy, a second avenging wrath, young brewmaster, a big game hunter, a silence, a harvest golem, whatever (I've been testing all those cards) I think leeroy definitely stays in my deck even if it's only a ghetto fireball to kill big minions most of the time. I'd rather run leeroy into a taunt than a buff minion when I don't have other removal freeing up aldor for later minions.

I also think if we get the cards right we should have the possibility to include lay on hands. I think a lot of the older lists in paladin rely too much on defensively reacting. Midrange should have board control and breathing room at some point in the game.

Sunfury only seems important if you've not got a lot of taunts. It's good in Crusher's deck because it has more survivability for Blessing of Kings but the utility by itself isn't that great in decks that run 2x Shieldmasta and Sunwalker. I run it because I only have 1x Sunwalker and no Shieldmasta (experimenting with a list that has more aggressive burst - leeroy, greenskin, 2x avenging. mainly to make it better vs druid but I don't have the stats yet to compare. waiting until rank 5 to start collecting)

i like it. it's too bad you can't fit in equality without changing it tho. i could run a lot of stuff if i didn't have to run at least one pyro and equality. i also like two avenging wrath even if it's just to shoot them in the face to get in kill range. mid range and slow paladins have trouble closing out games

posted a message on The Under Powered Paladin Cards

I actually like humility. It allows you to nullify lists like shaman and handlock which have a limited number of threats. It even has synergy with kodo which allows a destruction of a big minion with kodo for 6 mana. It's a powerful effect vs big minions. It's just hard to fit in a deck.

Blessing of Wisdom is ok but it's another card that probably doesn't work too well in a control paladin list because the pace is slow enough that you would only ever draw one card with it, two if very lucky. So it doesn't really solve the card draw problem with control. It's ok for aggro pally because you can just load up on divine shield and protect the minion with blessing. When used offensively it's also inconsistent because if the minion is big enough to want to attack with it anyway you probably want to kill it and if it's small enough that the minion won't attack then you don't actually draw until they find trading with it favorable.

The main issue I have with low cost Paladin spells is they are very situational so it doesn't make a lot of sense to run something like auctioneer because you can't get value trying to keep those spells for draw. It made more sense before they nerfed secrets because you could place auctioneer, cast redemption, then trade with a minion that benefits from redemption then maybe holy light or whatever.

I'm curious how climbing is with this list. I like the idea of the argent squire with equality but does it actually help vs early push from zoo decks? Also have you tried running a blood knight?

not sure how good the deck is but you might try to find room for one blessing of might. then you can +3 power a 4 strength minion and kill it with big game hunter or give leeroy +3 strength then faceless it for 9+9 = 18 damage
