thumbs up! nice vid. I've always said best ranked players and legend players are the ones who play the most, I also use that excuse as the reason why I never get to legend, don't have enough time to play. But I also think, as you said, there is some amount of skill required in the game. I have myself been in many situations where I've realized a little too late of mistakes I've made, so yeah I agree with you.

One point of constructive criticism about the editing though, is the extreme contrast in volumes every time you switch to ben brode clips. Had to continue adjusting volume.

You explained very clearly the random-skill range that would be optimal when considering to print a card. I personally think that Yogg-Saron has been really healty for the future of hearthstone as the final example of what is not compatible with the game. I appreciate team5's work but probably some of their Ideas were literally for the LULs , to make some things balanced and few pure fun. I have the feeling that they have definetly understood that they have to re-think how to put fun cards in the game; the fun and wacky stuff will be always a pillar of the game because this is team5 spirit and it's also one of the main reason why Hearthstone is so popular. At the end people who can explain their thoughts , as you did, are good for the community. -

Kaladin posted a message on Game Developer responds to Ben Brode about Luck in HearthsontePosted in: General DiscussionI thought this was really well done, well formatted, and easy to follow along with. I agree with you on all your points, and specifically about how luck and skill are in direct opposition.
That said, I think certain types of luck are healthy for the game and are what keeps it fun and interesting for new players (let's look at chess [the game of nearly 100% skill]....not very easy or fun to break into as a new player, unless you're willing to commit loads of hours studying the game). Flamewaker/Knife Juggler/Flame Juggler are examples of bad randomness (by contrast I think Ragnaros is fine, since the effect of 8 damage to a single target is offset by 'can't attack' and the late game nature), whereas cards like Sylvanas, Shredder, and Mounted Raptor are good randomness (Shredder's cost/stats are up for debate though), because as you said, you as a player can strategize and plan around them, and sometimes they have that "wow, cool!" factor.
Maybe the key is that randomness should not be able to negate ALL prior turns' actions and strategy, or immediately flip the tempo without paying some cost. (pre nerf) Yogg can outright win you an otherwise lost game, Flamewaker can destroy a board you've built up to that point, (pre nerf) Tuskarr can decide the game on the spot, and Fiery Bat can trade into a 2-drop 2/3 and immediately steal the tempo, for 1 mana.

A Mage Block and Burn deck seems to work well against many of the archetypes:
Forgotten Torch - Frostbolt - Ice Block
Basically you just go face with your burn spells and ignore the minions. Because the torches recycle, it can also be pretty good against the Druid Mill deck.

Coldlight Oracle + Innervate + Naturalize is, indeed, a nearly unstoppable monster.
Because you can naturalize your own oracles, you can force your opponent to draw 2 more cards.
Pretty common to get a cycle going of innervate to play oracle to play naturalize on your own oracle to play innervate...
Brutal. I'm 8-0 at the moment with it.
