I agree with you that the blade furry nerf was too much, however I think molten giant was necessary due to the nerf to bgh.
But what does Nerfing BGH have to do with Molten Giant? BGH may be 5 cost, but how many players can successfully play double Molten Giant before Turn 5? I have played pre-nerf Handlock countless times, and I don't recall a single time, even against Aggro decks, that I could get a double Molten Giant out by Turn 5 (at the most 1). And BGH wasn't made to directly counter Molten Giant, it was to counter any bigass minions that were 7 and above. So what if you nerf BGH to 5 mana? First off, BGH is going to see play a lot more frequently than nerfed Molten Giant. Second, even with the nerf to BGH, it doesn't matter because Molten Giant is very rarely played before Turn 5.
Even with disregarding bgh, with multiple "bursting nerfs" like fon savage roar, blade furry, and arcane golem all of the sudden molten giant become much better because you can operate at a lower life total safely. In a way burst and molten giant should always have a direct relationship. Furthermore, blizzard hates non-interaction, and because attacking the opponent is part of basic game concepts they want to make sure players can execute those concepts without having to worry about a 0 mana 8/8 because they can't do 10+ damage burst.
So this is valuing 1 card draw at about 2.5 mana. Compared to any other card that draws cards and puts body on the board, the card draw only takes off about 1-1.5 mana worth of stats (Ogre magi- Azure Drake) (Spider tank- Gnomish inventor). Perhaps also lowering the mana cost to 6 would be acceptable, but then again why play this over azure drake.....

There's is otk variation with charge, faceless, and frost giant, but as far as a "handlock" warrior version I have no idea if that would work

Looks like someone is satly at control warrior. With your reasoning any minion with 4 attack or more is OP because it can do 4 damage a turn.
Honestly, your paying 6 mana for a 6/3 that will help you survive longer. However you still need to build your deck to be able to fit her in properly.

Rag is super hot, but then again so is ysera. But overall I'd say rag would fit into more of the decks you play.
