Will there be an answer to Mysterious Challenger in the future? Probably, but it is too new to address right now.

I would point out that there is an answer to Mysterious Challenger for Hunter Class - Flare. Giving other classes a similar card would be an option, or making some combo to allow Kezan Mystic to grab more than one secret at a time could also be interesting. Heck, a card that would allow a battlecry to trigger more than once like Baron Rivendare allows deathrattle to trigger more than once could be fun too.

On the one hand I like this idea, adding in additional interactions and the like. On the other hand I am nervous about a virtual arms race or turning the game into rock paper scissors. So I am good with adding cards that have those interactions as long as it doesn't go too far.

So I have been reading a number of threads on the warsong nerf with people on both sides of the fence, with some saying it is needed and other saying there are other cards that need to be nerfed more. Everyone is very polarized about the change, which is completely understandable given the nature of the change. With that said, I don't think people fully understand why it had to happen and the implications of this change (as well as why other cards were not nerfed at the same time).

So, why did it need to be nerfed? Short Answer: It limited card development possibilities.

Long Answer: The developers are working on cards and new mechanics and all the normal development/design stuff all of the time. When developing, they are likely looking at other cards in the game and figuring out how they might interact. As a game designer, if you have some great ideas that keep getting shot down by the existence of one card, after a while you may want to look at changing that one card. Giving any past, present, or future card charge can either seriously break the game, or limit development. The nerf needed to happen to open up additional development avenues that were not there before.

Did it have to be nerfed now? Short Answer: Yes.

Long Answer: Blizzcon is just around the corner. It is likely that during blizzcon, they will announce a new raid or adventure or something like that. As soon as the cards get announced, people will figure out decks they can be used in and if one of those new cards interacts with Warsong Commander the wrong way, people will immediately point it out. Could they have made the change previously? Possibly, but that is also when Patron Warrior was used often. With the new expansion, the deck was used less often, so making the change at that time could have been calculated to soften the blow. Could they have done it differently? Probably, but without knowledge of what is coming, I can't safely say what they way may be.

Why didn't (insert card here) get nerfed? Short answer: You don't want too many nerfs at the same time.

Long Answer: We'll use the Mysterious Challenger as an example as it is pointed to the most often. Honestly, I think this card is a bit too powerful and either needs its mana cost increased, or reduce the number of secrets it puts into play. Blizzard couldn't nerf more than one card at the moment without REALLY pissing off the community (and driving away more customers). The presence of the mysterious challenger does not limit development of new cards. Will there be an answer to Mysterious Challenger in the future? Probably, but it is too new to address right now.

So the Warsong Commander needed to be nerfed. I think it deserved a stat buff or a mana reduction to make it usable in arena, but the nerf to the text on the card was needed at this time.

Ben Brode explained it very clearly on his video after the nerf (he also talked about the Dreadsteed thing during Naxxramas). There is no need to repeat what he said again... and again... and again on this forum.

Perhaps I hadn't seen the threads, but it was a point I didn't see a lot of people discussing. I do know Ben Brode mentioned some design limitations (to your point, the Dreadsteed example), but the other points I don't remember in his video. Figured I would give my take on it for what its worth.

It's not that Blizzard nerfed it (or nerf cards)...

They nerf cards to uplayable levels.

They destroy cards and take them out of circulation, which is the annoying thing. Like Starving Buzzard. Hit way too hard, there was no reason not to give it higher health or make the cost more reasonable like (4).

Since they nerfed the ability on Warsong - they should have buffed the stats to a 3/3 or a 2/4.

I agree entirely. It should have got some small buff to balance out the card. I don't think this change happened flawlessly and I think there were some changes that could have been made to improve the situation.
