Well you could maybe put Thalnos and Umbra if you have them, maybe another doomsayer...or just go with board clear like syphon and twisting nether. I'd rather put the board clears since there is a lot of aggro around these days and nether works well against maybe big/spiteful priest if you find some :)
Well usually some early game, of course! If you are against aggro you usually want to keep defile/hellfire to board clear, the mistress for early board presence and to gain some health and maybe a dark pact just in case you really need that health! Against control you can always keep lackey/weapon since the decks are slower and try to just draw almost every turn and since you are constantly drawing you might wanna keep a molten giant and play it maybe turn 4! In general, lackey or weapon are usually good to keep if on curve. Hope I helped a bit :)
Uhm actually you could craft the DK and play not a Cubelock but a Control Warlock that doesn't require Doomguards so no Skull! Skull is definetely important in this deck, especially cause you don't wanna play a doomguard and discard two card, but the DK I think is equally important! sorry that i can't help you more :C
Well I got legend with it last season and for now, playing not so much, I'm rank 6, so I'd say it still works pretty well! If you like the archetype, give it a try :)
So I've been placed at rank 16 with 3 stars at the beginning of the season and I'm actually trying to reach legend again with this deck! Since i also have to work the time I have to play isn't really much but for now I can tell you that I've managed to get to rank 10 easily, playing a couple of games per day.
I didn't really play in the last few days but I played yesterday as the nerfs went live! I played 3 games and I'm currently on a winstreak! So for now I'd tell you that the deck still works fine, but with the nerfs live we might see more decks built to counter cubelocks in the future. Unfotunately is too early to say if that will be the case or not imo.
Overall I think the deck is still really good and if you like the archetype and if you think is fun, just go for it and play it :)
I found them really useful overall, but I guess you could put another faceless instead and maybe Prince Taldaram or Umbra! I just tried and thought they were better, they can give you a lot of tempo early on.
If you want to have Doomguard and more general the Cubelock archetype,I think you really need the skull sadly :c if you can't afford it you can play a different control warlock without cubes and dooguards but with N'zoth and some other cards
Uhm well, I think if you wanna playDoomguard you need the skull, you don't really wanna play it from your hand and discard a couple of cards! So if you wanna go with Cubelock i think you actually need it, yes! But you can also play other control Warlocks which don't require it. With N'zoth and no cubes, and maybe the Skullking geist
It's another good way to board clear, especially early on! It either tanks you 7 damage and then you can maybe play coin + Hellfire, or it clears you the board and gives you a bit of tempo! It can be good also later when you have taunts to protect it and it can clear you the board turn 9 for a gul'dan turn 10! I really found it useful :)
Well I agree with you, I don't think Prince Taldaram is a must have and yes Faceless Manipulator can often be used to copy an enemy minion, or even a Voidlord that gets mind controlled and it seemed better to me too. Imho just wait for the nerfs and dust a Corridor Creeper! Maybe there will be better use of the prince in the future, who knows!

Sadly I don't think there is a proper replace for Gul'dan, it's pretty unique and core in this deck :(
