posted a message on Why is "Curvestone" a pejorative term?

It is optimal but only within the context of this game. Some people would rather the game be filled with more interesting decisions than playing a card because it matches the number of mana crystals you have.

Obviously this is slightly exaggerated since there are plenty of interesting decisions that would cause you to deviate from this (in both arena and constructed) but it does highlight an issue about the game being pretty autopiloty (Which may be a good thing for those using the game to relax).

Thread title might be intentional. I feel like people this eager to judge content that's barely been explored probably wouldn't have the patience to read the poll title :-)

posted a message on Pirate Warrior - Why now?

Comparing Bloodmage Thalnos with Patches is actually pretty interesting. They both serve similar purposes in very different archetypes (generally, pre-spirit claws). In Thalnos' case it's a cantrip (replaces itself; technically a slowtrip) that helps with an extra damage push (Spell SMorc or trades). Patches thins your deck for you and provides a bit of damage for trades or SMorc. Interestingly Thalnos is usually played in the mid to late half of the game whereas Patches will always be one of the first cards played (or drawn).

Might be fair to call Patches the pirate aggro decks' thalnos.

    EDIT:

    Quote from Turinn >>

I think I'm the only one who has never faced pirate warrior. My bet is all of them have already climbed up to rank 5 five or so.

I just face jade druid again, and again, and again.

Playing in NA here. Rank 6 at the moment and quickly climbing thanks to winstreaks. I'm facing a pretty balanced distribution of Jade druids, combo druids, midrange shamans and pirate warriors. Haven't seen anything out of the ordinary, stopped seeing dragon priests/renolocks about 2 hours ago.

posted a message on Pirate Warrior - Why now?

Patches and the new 1 mana 3/2 allows the deck to grab board control. Aggro decks generally snowball any sort of early board control into a victory.

Plus, it's a bit too quick to judge that pirate warrior's the deck to beat. It's only been 4 days since the expansion so no refined midgame deck that's highly favoured against it is particularly well known. Some might be but require a lot more refinement and playtesting before they're convincingly better than a just as refined pirate list.

Also keep in mind a lot of people are play-testing and/or playing slower decks on ladder partly for fun, and mostly because it's refreshing to have a semi-control dominant environment for once (Renolock, dragon PRIEST and the slower Jade variants). Playing the fastest deck easily imaginable is a good way of netting a few quick wins.

I'd argue shuffling into your deck turn 1 is always a bad play, even against control. You're losing midgame deck consistency which affects your ramp, cycle, answers and threat generation.

Against Warrior, Shaman (Quite a few aggro variants on ladder) or Paladin I would just play the 1/1. If they turn out to be midrange you're not losing much since even against midrange that extra 1/1 on top of each subsequent golem is great.

I don't think keeping it is correct either, you're mostly looking for ramp/removal to deal with these aggressive decks. Sacrificing a card in the early game for a 1/1 token that's usually killed for free is pretty bad. The additive effect of the golems is also much less relevant since the game will be down by then and you're mostly playing answers anyway.

The correct play most of the time would be to keep it in your hand, in a control matchup you'll be floating mana later on so it won't really matter. Against a cautious/attentive opponent they might mistake it for an answer.

It's awarding MSoG. All my packs outside of the 6 quest packs have been from arena so far.

Eh probably should've put a hyphen there. Meant to say first 12-win arena run.

Great! I've been a fan of the card since it's been revealed. It's no Ethereal Conjurer but I would rank it at around the same level as Azure Drake for Rogue, maybe a bit weaker.

I curved out very well so I was able to protect the 3 hp body. The "discover healing as a rogue" part of it isn't all that attracting since the healing+3hp body will lead to major tempo loss. In my games it helped me edge out a few close situations, notably I discovered Trade Prince Gallywix against a priest trying to set up a board clear. I would see it as either a desperation tool, or refill, leaning towards being a win-more card.

posted a message on 12 Win Decklists.

Drafted a pretty insane rogue deck with a ton of early game and a few pieces of removal. Went from 3-2 to 12-2 facing priests back to back for my final two wins. Curvestoned pretty hard too.

Calling it now, Shadow Rager OP in arena. Traded up so many times and turns 3-5 your opponent either doesn't have a waveclear or doesn't want to use it.

    Attached: Decklist and rewards.
