I have been playing arena recently but I can't pass 3 wins without losing 3 times. Admittedly I'm not a great player but I've got to rank 5 in a season using Handlock. My arena decks generally peak at 4 mana and have a symmetrical curve.
Any tips? I'm not looking for a big streak but something like 5 wins so I can start profiting from the arena.
First 10 Picks search for Synergie and a Strategy for the Deck, Pick 11-20 Build the Synergie up, Pick 21-30 Curve out. There is a thread with 12 Wins Deck´s - check this thread out and look at the Decks you will get an Idea how a good Deck has to look like.
And this is a myth, in my opinion.
Choices are way too limited to actually aim for certain synergies most of the time, exceptions are if you get some very-well synergizing stuff during the first few picks, like Mana Wyrm, Sorcerers Apprentice, Flamewaker and some cheap removal spells.
The big majority of my high-win decks does NOT have a lot of a certain type of synergy, instead the key is to get cards that are good unconditionally or ALREADY have excellent synergy with your deck, regardless of the pick number. A deck with some insane - lets say - Mech synergy might be impossible to beat if you draw perfectly, but the point is: you won't. So a good, consistent allround deck is much better.
What matters the most is the curve, the average card quality and value plays, and to know when to play control-ish, agressive and - most importantly - to spot the right moment to switch from value- to tempo-plays.
@OP: I am pretty sure the reason is that you do some misplays you don't notice. Of course deckbuilding is important, but there is much more room for big mistakes in the actual match than in the draft.
Probably a lot to do with your play. I don't think most players constantly playing arena really even consider getting to legend as a challenge, so being a rank 5 player is already a big disadvantage. I'm not the greatest player, probably worse at arena than I was a year ago, but I can still easily do my rank 17 to 5 constructed grind in a day.
Even as different modes, the same general rules apply to the game as far as playing goes. Like you still need to understand how much reach you have, which dictates how much you commit to the board. Like you can't really read decks the way you would in constructed, so you have to make plays based more around their plays rather than their deck.
Arena really isn't that much about the deck as long as you can make half decent drafting choices, or even just blindly follow something like heartharena. Everyone (nearly everyone anyways) can do well with a good deck, but it's how you drive those mediocre decks that really impacts your average.
