So I am making this thread to vent some frustrations over my last three arena runs and ask if others have have anything similar happen to them.
I think it's fair to say that Arena has gotten more difficult in the last few months. With the noobs on the most part cut out now they have all the cards they wanted to craft from GVG or spending all their time under 3 wins.
So i'm of the opinion Arena has never been harder.
This i have noticed as i went from an average of a little over 6 so an average nearer 5 in the last couple of months. This is frustrating but my last three runs have been totally ridiculous.
Now we all have bad runs in arena where we cant seem to get over 5 or 6 wins even with an ok deck. I thought i'd gotten past this three days ago as i went 1-3. At the time i felt it bad variance as i was coming vs decks with rag, Ysera and Dr.Boom in the space of 3 matches.
I do an arena run per day and the last three days have left me feeling disgusted at the game. I'm the kind of guy who doesnt tend to get salty, doesnt like to blame the games RNG and doesnt like to put anything down to luck.
On the second day i was given a pretty good paladin deck (my favorite arena class) and fully expected an 8-10 run with it. But then some of the things that happened. I had a guy play a match awfully. A hunter. Obviously about to lose he was on 7 health me on 15. I had stabilised and filled the board (risky vs a hunter but the weakness of my deck was a very low curve and i drew all 2 and 3 drops in the match. I had only done so for lethal. The guy then has the starving buzzard, timber wolf and UTH combo in arena on turn 10 And managed to turn the game around and win. Considering how poorly he had played the game and the position with lethal i had it was disheartening. But still that's just how things can go i understand that.
Next game is a paladin who again made so many obvious misplays. Went face far too early and deserved the loss he was about to recieve before the turn before he was dead topdecking the truesilver for the win. Again this is disheartening, 2 games in a row now, 2 arena runs of pretty poor luck overall is painful. (Third loss that arena was just outclassed by better deck and opponent).
But in Arena 3, today to be hit by 2 Kezan's in my 2 opening matches using a deck that runs a single secret, both times developed by a scientist. Left me quite unhappy. Infact disgusted. Now this was bad luck. And left me feeling extremely salty and sad but nothing could prepare me for the final game of todays run... 3-2 at the time after the kezan games i had a mini revival.
But the kezan's were only the start, the first 2 games and losses of todays run.
The third loss took things to a new level. A mage playing a grim patron into mad bomber with 7 minions on the board for 2 of his three bombs to hit the patron and other one hitting my 4-2 to leave him with hero power kill is again something to leave me wounded.
That was fine because i still had a strong hand, he had 1 card left and i had 4 strong minions left on the board. He traded all the patrons and other minions to clear my board leaving only my sea giant. He even stupidly forgot to activate a patron for a free 2 mana 3/3
Over the next couple of turns i played out these minions 3 at a time to play around MCT and flamestrike. He flamestruck once then twice.
So it leaves my board with a skygolem, his with nothing. I have 0 cards, its his top-deck for 1. He is on 4 health, me 29 health.
He top-decks arcane intellect (edit:which was played on the same turn as the second flamestrike). Draws mirror image and majordomo executus from it.... Surely the only 2 cards in the game that could bring him back the game from this situation as my hero power kills him in 3 turns and my golem on the board would have next turn.
My next top-deck is the 4/5 taunt divine shield 6 mana, sorry the name evades me but im thinking to myself... Top-decks his card draw (out of 13 remaining cards) into the mirror image, surely the only card that saves him in his deck and majordomo which i soon notice could destroy me. I'm top-decking only large minions and he is on 4 health.
So over the next 3 turns he uses majordomo to kill my big guys as i kill 1 mirror image per turn before he kills off majordomo for a health increase of 4 and a hero power that in that situation leaves me completely fucked. And i lose over the next 2 turns.
The russian that beat me then BMed the entire end ofgame and added me to spam some Russian abuse all of which i didnt understand anything but the rather happy faces.
Right now i only feel complete disgust and sadness and my laptop is lucky to have not been thrown out the window.
I challenge people to make me feel better and tell me an even sadder Arena story
Tip: Ask your girlfriend to open your packs... 3 Golden Legendary cards including sylvanas and a normal thalnos in her first 4 packs... And she averages a legend in every 15 packs (almost twice as good as average)
Due to the random nature of arena, some times everything will line up against you. Sometimes you won't draw a playable minion until turn 5 even with an absurdly good deck. Sometimes your opponent will draft an insane deck and draw insanely well. The attached picture happened to me the other day (my opponent played a perfect tempo mage deck in arena). Sometimes you will get a decent draft good for 4-5 wins, but you'll get matched early on with people who have 12 win decklists but are only on game 2 so the game just matches 2 1-0 players together and you get ROFLstomped.
The only way I can avoid tilt when crap like that happens is to just remember the times the stars aligned for me. Take screenshots/videos of games you had no business winning, and just look at them when RNG beats you to a pulp. Remember that karma is a bit like Trade Prince Gallywix: She provides the beatings and demands you pay up! It happens to even the best of us.
I'll leave you with some life advice that's relevant even here: "The master has failed more than the novice has even tried." If you're willing to learn and improve your game, then just push through your rage and don't quit, and you'll do better (as long as you actually stop if you tilt, to give yourself time to cool down).

He top-decks arcane intellect. Draws mirror image and majordomo executus from it.... Surely the only 2 cards in the game that could bring him back the game from this situation as my hero power kills him in 3 turns and my golem on the board would have next turn.
Well, when your opponent can get up to 13 mana then he has an unfair advantage and you're bound to lose. I get how you wanna make up some extreme situations to stress your point, but this makes me question everything else you said as well.
Anyway, we've all had bad streaks, just hang in there and you'll get through it.
Yes, Believe me i asked questions of my play, but i can honestly tell you that I felt that the instances described above were all in-answerable and something i cannot avoid with the decks i had.
The main point of my disgust was the unlikelihood of not just all these things happening, not just all these poor opponents likelihood of winning despite their misplays but also the chances of the way all these games were lost AND in the space of 3 arena runs. I even mention that the final game of my second run that i was slapped by a better player. I'm not one to exaggerate or look to blame all else, this is my first ''salty'' thread in over a year of playing hearthstone. Normally I lose i'm like whatever, get on with it. But the way these last 3 runs panned out really is a joke.
Remember i described trying to play around Flamestrike and MCT, but he had 2 flamestrikes anyway, I only played out a full board vs the Hunter to set up lethal next turn, at the time even considering the risk against UTH but as he had 3 cards in hand and i had a 3/5 senjin up i didn't see how ,without the exact combo he turned out to have. He would have any chance back into the game.
I'm an experienced player. And my best strength is gaining value and making the best possible play a high percentage of the time. Which is why I'm better at Arena than constructed. So although i see your point in that i could have misplayed myself. I'm not talking about making a play that could be good or bad situation-ally dependent on the opposition hand. I'm talking about my opponents making truly poor and stupid plays such as a turn 3 arcane golem to face when i'm on 24 health and have a 3-4 on the board. That's a case that happened in the game i lost to truesilver top-deck when on 4 health with lethal next turn.
So let me answer your slightly insulting final paragraph of be-belittling questions. If another line of play did result in an earlier win then in more situations than the play i chose to take it would have cost me the game. I was certainly not overly cautious with trading. I know when to go for the kill. Especially as in most of the games i describe i was against extremely aggressive opponents who i had no chance of racing from early on. Yes i did over-extend my board in the hunter game for lethal next turn playing into the unlikelihood of him having the Timberwolf-OTH and Starving buzzard, which is actually something i strongly considered at the time, but as he had 3 cards he had been holding. I thought it more likely that considering his aggressive play earlier he likely had a beast, perhaps UTH and even maybe a Kill command or two, which is why on 15 health i wanted to kill him asap before i was in range of such things. I had a solid taunt. Literally the only way back for him in the game was to clear my board while keeping his own presence as well as drawing several cards.... What are the chances of a hunter doing all that in arena? In 1 turn before they die. I thought not enough to justify longing out the game and losing to a more likely double kill command beast combo.

Make up? How imaginative do you think i am. I'm serious, those were exactly my last 3 arena runs. I had them documented in detail as i was telling a friend on skype as they happened which i had to refer to when making this thread.
Edit:Sorry yes 13 mana, i see your point, He didnt play them on the same turn sorry, the intellect came the turn before with the second flamestrike. The intellect being his only card left after the flamestrike. I've edited the OP to stop any future confusion.
Tip: Ask your girlfriend to open your packs... 3 Golden Legendary cards including sylvanas and a normal thalnos in her first 4 packs... And she averages a legend in every 15 packs (almost twice as good as average)
He was not being insulting, he was asking for you to self-evaluate. There are MANY players who overestimate their own ability, and fail to see their own misplays. Without videos/extensive photo records of the matches, it's impossible to prove if you actually made all the right plays or not.
With that in mind, you aren't going to make people want to help you if you rant on when they ask you to look in a mirror. Heck, even top-tier players make misplays and have to reanalyze their games to see if they made the right plays or not.

Unless explicitly stated, my posts are my opinion and mine only.
It seems like that kind of a streak of bad result would happen eventually for anyone playing an arena run a day with a 5-6 win average. I mean, if you were to take the results of your last 100 arena runs, rearrange the data and streak together some of your worst runs... then there you go? Just rub some math on it and feel better? I'm sure you've had lots of 7+ wins and probably some 12's playing arena every day. I guess what I'm trying to say is take it in stride.
I completely understand what he was trying to say. It's not likely to have such a poor run of Arena form and to lose against opponents i say made poor choices without making mis-plays myself.
And im sure there would have been instances where another play will have led to a win. But on the balance of play I'm trying to explain that many of these games were lock down wins. I made not the right play as it may have turned out. But considering all possibilities i thought of. For me each play was 100% the correct play. Even if it led to a loss it's not something i would do differently as i feel that doing different would lead to a loss a higher percentage of the time.
Perhaps i shouldnt have mentioned the opponents poor play in the OP, as it's lead us down a path that wasnt intended. I'm not here to discuss good and bad play. The fact they made obvious mis-plays like turn 3 arcane golem to face and missing a free 3/3 instead fire-blasting my face. Ok (the point being any mistake i made is not comparable to those kind of errors) Those errors are huge.
The actual point was first... What are the chances of coming up vs a turn 6 Unstable portal Ysera in the first game of your arena run, Third game coming vs a turn 8 Rag, and 4th and finalgame coming up vs a turn 7 Dr.Boom In arena....
Then the next day Losing to a Hunter with 3 cards when you have a taunt and lethal on the board. Especially to a combo like i described.
Then to a paladin who turn 3 golems to face when i have a 3/4 on 1/1 on board which end up winning the game when he topdecks truesilver after i have recovered the board and have lethal next turn.
Then the next day 2 kezan's in 2 games at crucial points leading to a huge swing and eventual loss. Then in the final game having a person have a bomber hit 2 bombs on a patron when there are 6 other minions on the board (4 on my side 2 on his) + bomber placed With the insult of the final bomb hitting my 4-2 to leave easy kill
Followed by 2 flamestrikes and an arcane intellect when he has 0 cards left which gives him what was surely one of the very few 2 card combos that saves him from both my hero power and board presence in the game. Surely the only 2 in his 13 card remaining deck.
The point here is not to focus on their mistakes. Not to think about what mine were. Because i could have played the games as well as anybody in the world but there is simply no way to legislate against all of those things happening.
If you think ANYBODY, let alone me an average 5.4 Arena player (which i assume is average, maybe a tiny bit above average) but perhaps below average for a player since beta. Could win the game where these situations stack against them.
The only game i could have perhaps won is the paladin where he topdecks the truesilver. But as i remember, I made the strongest play i could think of each turn while on curve and keeping the board in my control. He was a paladin who played like a face hunter in Arena and managed to topdeck the win.
If i remember my alternative to my play which was the strongest possible cards that control the board each turn would have been to throw out all my hand and lose to consecration. So personally, speaking as an average player im telling you i played to the best of my ability. And i don't think there is anyway to legislate against in answerable legendaries, Hunters with the exact 3 card combo they need to come back from the dead, Paladins that play like a face-hunter then topdeck the win when they probably lose 19/20 times they do that and a mage with... Well as i have described complete disgusting game.
I dont care how i played or how they played. Although it had a large bearing on the overall game im talking about what happened at the key moments of the game. The likelyhood of these draws/ these things happening.
What are the chances of playing vs the 3 best neutral arena legendaries in a 4 game run?
What are the chances of that face paladin winning that game normally.
What are the chances the hunter had that exact combo in arena?
What are the chances of playing vs 2 turn 4 kezan's in 2 games hitting my only secret
What are the chances of the bomber hitting 2 on the same minion on a 6 minion in-play board then hitting my 4-2
What are the chances of him having picked majordomo. Then drawing it as well as the mirror image from the intellect when they were surely the only 2 cards in his deck if not the game that saved him in the situation. IN ARENA.
Thats my point. Please Modded, try to understand the main point i was trying to make here. I don't want to lose my respect for you.
I understand mister_smith wasnt trying to be insulting. Just patronizing. But i felt insulted. If the above happened to you in arena in the space of 3 days would you be seriously questioning your own play... Above questioning how the heck all that can happen against you and at the times it did. Often the turn before opponents death.
What i don't like is that you both assume I'm not a top tier player (I'm not, nowhere near. Only made legend 4 times in all seasons) But you automatically assume that's the case in your original replies. Which is insulting. Especially with Mister_Smith questioning my play above empathising with what was obviously an extremely unlikely 3 days of Arena.
Trying to make yourselves out to be above me, Like you can give me this advice because you're better players. I actually enjoyed reading your original reply. Although the final paragraph was a little condescending, although nothing on Mister's reply.
At the end of the day it doesn't matter how much better at the game you may be than I am. Given this same experience im sure you would feel similar disgust. As i said, i have questioned my play. But I played as well as I possibly could. I didnt spot any obvious mis-plays and although average I am certainly of the experience to spot the obvious mis-plays of myself and opponents. I take my time, never rush a turn. Like to consider all possibilities and always act on what i feel is best in terms of probability. That's all i can ask of myself.
So thank you for your condescending advice and i see you're backing up your friend. Because i of course always see you two on these forums. But i won't be bullied here. If the boot were on the other foot you wouldnt be the willing recipient of condescending advice. So try show some empathy. Build some social understanding.
Tip: Ask your girlfriend to open your packs... 3 Golden Legendary cards including sylvanas and a normal thalnos in her first 4 packs... And she averages a legend in every 15 packs (almost twice as good as average)
You're not being bullied, and honestly I don't know what you're looking for here.
Sympathy? BS happens, which I admit sucks. Just yesterday I had implosion roll a 2, 7 times in a row. I've been wrecked 0-3 in arena when I had 4 fire elementals in the deck cuz I got matched against a rogue, hunter and warlock that rushed me down.
Tips? That's what I (and others) are trying to give.
If you're going to just complain about RNG, and want others to join in with you, I will just lock the thread as nothing constructive will come out of it.
No one's trying to bully you, we're honestly trying to help you move on to what's next. But if you want to focus on solely the negatives of admittedly bad luck, this thread will be viewed as a cesspool and I will lock it down.

I made it clear what i was looking for here Modded.
I was asking if anybody had ever had similar happen to them and for them to share their bad luck Arena stories to compare and maybe me me feel better about my own misfortune.I also mentioned it was a place for me to vent my frustration of the events (A problem shared becomes a lot less of a problem)
Bearing in mind i most certainly was not asking for help on how to come back from devastation or asking why this happened. I knew it was bad luck. i made it clear i've never made a post like this and normally dont like to blame things on luck and get salty about them but given the EXTREME events if there were ever a time where venting frustration was needed, this was the time for me.
What i got was ''tips'', advice and condescension. As well a couple of the type of stories i was asking for (both from you anyway). I don't want to be told how to recover from upset. In a couple of days i will forget this ever happened and it'll be fine.
I got a condescending belittling reply trying to tell me that even the top tier players get bad luck (assuming/suggesting im a player nowhere near that level) Which i admit is certainly true, but it's not fair for you to assume that. Before your forum friend comes on sticks his boot in with a paragraph of questions against my ability suggesting i could have done better and that the bad luck was somehow my own fault.
I took exception especially to Mister's reply, as it literally gave nothing of the sort of reply i asked for (remembering i asked for similar stories) Instead as i mentioned above was pretty much questioning my ability in a condescending way, assuming i made mis-plays to lose in such a manner. I think he forgot my whole point was that despite all these games being a 99/100 win given the final turn situations. For them all to flip so suddenly on unlikely cards from the opponents generally low card saturated hands in the space of 3 days, 3 arena runs i found both astounding and disgusting and felt it worthy of sharing here both to vent the anger and tell those who might be interested in these sort of things an incredibly unlikely but completely true story.
I didnt say you were bullying. I said don't try to. Because i saw where it was going. I see you and your friend Mister on MANY posts here and saw you obviously sticking up for a forum friend against me. Again unfair as a Mod you must stay impartial. Especially now you are threatening me with your ''power'' to take my thread down. On the grounds its complaining about RNG? Well in a way it is, I'm asking others to share their arena complaints and make me feel better about my recent poor luck.
Pretty sure one of the biggest threads on these entire forums in a thread made for those to vent anger on bad luck/RNG in the game so surely if you want to threaten to shut this down on those ground you must shut that one down too? Which would be amusing as ive seen you post your thoughts many-a-time in said thread! What good came of that? Well people got to let out some frustration, share empathy and get on with playing the game with a few lessons learned and cool stories shared. So surely that's constructive enough for you?
I don't want your tips, I never asked for them. It's your own superiority complexes that led you both to think your advice was wanted and required (that said i felt your original reply was very helpful and as i said before i enjoyed reading it.) It was more Misters i took complete exception to as it completely ignored what my OP was asking for and instead was more a personal inquisition and as you said a statement to ''look in the mirror'' Why i have made clear is not what the thread wanted. It was a thread talking about Hugely improbably events happening in a short space of time and asking for a reply of similar events. Not a slightly condescending self-righteous tutorial on how to improve at the game.
I don't know how many times i need to repeat myself. Because you are not getting it.
As i said. I never said you were bullying. I said if you're going to start... Which is where it was headed with the Mister, Modded tag team. Sticking up for eachother. You are of no help. I'm a better player than you give credit for, especially Mister. For you teo to have made the judgement on my post is surely unfair. Bearing in mind the best ''Top teir'' as you say hearthstone players show at least minor autistic tendencies anyway.
Ok you lock this ''cesspool'' of salty RNG hatred down as well as the several thousand post thread of exactly the same thing for constructed play in the general chat forums on which you have made comments before which i have seen.

There's a venting thread in General discussions and that thread is open for ANY kind of venting, regardless of game type. It's not just a constructed thread.
Since this has become far too aggressive and personal I'm going to close this here and ask everyone to head on over to the main venting thread if they had something to vent about.
CLOSED.

Tip: Ask your girlfriend to open your packs... 3 Golden Legendary cards including sylvanas and a normal thalnos in her first 4 packs... And she averages a legend in every 15 packs (almost twice as good as average)
Well i can fully understand the OP.
Arena not only got harder, no, my opponents get awful good drafts now 90% of the time.
Almost every game i play the opponent has a good legendary or at least 1 sick combo.
What do i get in my drafts? Shit.
Even at 0-2 my opponents have Dr.Boom 2 true silver 2 consecrate etc
Maybe it's because i'm playing on EU?
Because i'm averaging 2-3 wins atm and i played 2 times on Asia and NA each and got 9 / 10 wins...
Yea, maybe we damn europeans get better drafts and even play better(i just feel that way in arena, no offence).
But no, i forgot, i only draft SHIT decks.
God damnit i rly can't take anymore of these damn noobs who drafts good decks thanks to heartharena and topdeck like there's no tomorrow.
I know there's a thread for that kind of saltiness but i felt the need to support the OP.
Arena can be a bitch sometimes, and atm it just keeps being that every damn time... Going on for weeks now.
Hey. =)
Unless explicitly stated, my posts are my opinion and mine only.
Tip: Ask your girlfriend to open your packs... 3 Golden Legendary cards including sylvanas and a normal thalnos in her first 4 packs... And she averages a legend in every 15 packs (almost twice as good as average)
There's a venting thread in General discussions and that thread is open for ANY kind of venting, regardless of game type. It's not just a constructed thread.
Since this has become far too aggressive and personal I'm going to close this here and ask everyone to head on over to the main venting thread if they had something to vent about.
CLOSED.
