I could care less if Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt's face is in a movie. If the movie is good then it is good, regardless of whether it is live action or animated.
Take for example the last part of the Fast and Furious. This entire franchise (besides 2 first parts) is a complete shit pile with a turbo stupid scenario, stupid behavior of characters and senseless effects. BUT! It have a strong actor line up. How much money they got from release? I'll tell you. Over a BILLION dollars.
The Fast and Furious franchise is one example though. How many movies get made that do awful at the box office and have a slew of famous faces in them? The Great Wall movie with Matt Damon did terribly. The new King Arthur movie is bombing. Any of the last like 10 movies with Johnny Depp. I could go on.
I'm not advocating for every movie to just be entirely CGI, I'm saying movie studios need to actually sit down and think about the subject matter and the core audience before just assuming that what worked 30+ years ago is going to always work. We live in a time when a large portion of the movie going demographic has lived with animated TV shows and video games their entire lives. I don't think the stigma that animated things = kids stuff is as big a deal as it once was.

King Arthur is separate because of its masterful director Guy Ritchie. And its bombing for sure. But warcraft did not have that huge director. I think that movie studio that brought us Warcraft actually tried to feel the audience. Sort of test how it will be met by people and fans. So i think they held up all of their investments. They definetely could have done more impressive stuff. And if there will be a second part of it (which i really hope to happen) then they will probably give us more. All those fractions of Taurens, Trolls, Demon Hunters, etc. are so attractive for me to see on the big screen.
One of the things I don't understand about movie production companies is their need to put real actors into everything even when it doesn't make much sense. We've got entirely CGI movies for kids that do insane amounts of money at the box office. Most of the people in the age group to be interested in a movie like Warcraft have grown up with cartoons and video games for most of their entire lives. Things that are entirely animated or done with computer graphics are not weird or off-putting to them. The CGI sequences in World of Warcraft MMO are amazingly well done. Why not just make an entire movie like that instead of trying to alter real people and places with mediocre CGI?
Have to mix some real with the fake. All CGI then you have a kids movie. Warcraft has a wider demographic then just children. All CGI movies in my opinion are like paying to watch a cartoon. Don't get me wrong, CGI these days look amazing!!! You can still tell though =/
I beg to differ. Have you ever watched any of the WoW (or Diablo, or Starcraft) CGI cut-scenes? They are amazing and certainly not targeted toward a child audience. I was expecting the movie to turn out like a feature film-length version of those CGI scenes and was pretty disappointed that we had to accept a pretty mediocre job of blending the live action with CGI characters.
The movie itself was okay, but I'll say that some of the changes to lore seemed pointless, or worse yet, just so they could skip over developing the characters and situations and just fill it with action and scenes pointlessly developing other plot lines.
All-in-all, it should have been a TV series like GoT. At least they could have taken the time to properly develop the story rather than cramming it into two hours and making it obvious that they're not sure there will be a sequel at all.
I watched this move almost 3 times because the movie is really good when i watched the cinematic trailer of this movie i got it that it will be the fun when the movie will release & yes i found the movie really great. Beautiful graphics used in many scenes with beautiful views! love to watch this again & again. In fact last weekend I bought an online discount coupons from reecoupons to watch this movie when I was getting bored. I always wait for this type of movie to make my weekend full of fun.
I went in the theater with little to no expectations, and with this mindset i was really impressed, the movie was not bad! "It's so rare now a days to have a decent fantasy movie!" i said to myself, i mean look at the original 3 star wars movies, absolute crap actor play, but the universe was one of a kind, it's the same with the WC Movie, but the actors are way better, i really hated the human king tho, he was a pussy BUT at the end of the movie he redeemed himself, he actually fought well.
And let's not forget the best scene of the movie! The Crossing of the bridge! Mrrrwurrrllllglllrrrwwwrrr

GLAd for you mate! I really liked it. Watch it twice (cinema on it's release and at home). In fact even my wife, who know nothing about Warcraft universe, except some minor details about characters from hearthstone while watching me playing, was very pleased with this movie. So now we are both waiting for a sequel!
movie is shit. its average movie....same as all movies in last 10 years using same formula. I was disapointed because i hoped Blizzard can do really epic work. I loved their cinematics and i really love lore, books are fantastic and it has really potential to be better than LOTR and i dont get it why blizzard choose this way for movie

Whats wrong with you guys saying stuff like this? Who the hell on earth can compare cinematics with a movie??? You can watch a short cinematic with all the epicness in it and get so hyped that you can loose your breath how impressive it was. And you do not get those impressions while watching a 2h movie. You simply can not be so impressed that long (or you can if you are high on drugs).
I was a little bit disappointed with it, it was a good movie, but I feel like it had to be a little more similar to the lore. I know it couldn't be perfect because it would take a lot of time to explain everything from the lore, but I felt like it could have been better.

The 1st step towards a better game is firing Mike Donais! We had enough of his "skillful" balances!
#FireMikeDonais
Yet another mediocre fantasy movie.
I had very low expectations before going to the cinema, so I didn't get disappointed either.
CGI work is the only good thing about this movie.
Garona isn't Medivh's kid either

In the movie they made it out like she was his kid, in the game she's half space goat, half orc
