Who am I? (None of your business!) I'm hx9. I did Hearthstone Christmas song parodies which you can find here: (https://youtube.com/hx9). I have been doing competitive gaming just below the professional level since the original Starcraft 20 years ago. I led a World of Warcraft guild and raid for 10 years. In Hearthstone I've played in a number of online tournaments (and a few LANs!) and reach legend every season. Utilizing this experience and my teaching background, I put together a website and a set of video guides for Hearthstone and will be updating and adding to them frequently.
What is HIC? http://hicardology.com/ The Hearthstone Institute of Cardology is a site which guides players from the very beginning of the Tutorial up through playing meta decks at the top ranks of legend. We're releasing two parts of the Institute today, the beginner's guide and the encyclopaedia.
Why HIC? I've found a lot of issues with Hearthstone education provided to players. I'm aiming to solve the following problems. *There isn't a good launching point - one place to go or send your friends to get started *Guides go out of date and aren't updated consistently *Frequently asked questions aren't explained well or easily individualized (First legendary to craft, packs to buy, etc.) *Replacements aren't explained well or not enough alternatives are provided (why can't I replace Alexstraza!?) *Things are explained using card game and gamer terms and memes which newer players don't understand (Just SMOrc him down!)
Beginner's Guide: http://hicardology.com/videos/beginner/ The beginner's guide is starts at the tutorial and move through the AI battles and adventures. What separates this guide from others is that we'll only use a single class and gradually upgrade our deck through the adventures. This allows new players to focus on learning the core mechanics and concepts of the game rather than running around looking for decklists and leveling up other classes. I have provided beginner decklists for all the classes in a similar progression to the mage deck to help players who don't have access to all the adventures just yet.
Encyclopedia: http://hicardology.com/encyclopedia/ The encyclopedia has a list of the core game concepts, gaming terms and memes. Each of these explains their meaning in the context of Hearthstone. It also goes into a bit more detail than the dictionary definition of the terms. It answers questions like "What am I looking for in a battlecry minion?" and "What is the origin of RIP in Pepperonis."
Stream: http://twitch.tv/hxz9/ I'll be streaming from 8PM-Midnight EST (GMT-5) Monday through Thursday and ad lib on weekends. I aim to be an educational stream, explaining my plays as I go toward legend and higher legend ranks. The last 30 minutes of the stream will be set aside to answer questions posted on the subreddit (see feedback section below!).
Coming Soon: Future videos will be released as they come out rather than a big chunk like this one. Some videos you can expect include: *Leveling classes 1-10 after completing the adventures (with decklists) *Full collection reviews for beginning players *Intermediate concept videos (managing tilt, midrange decks, etc.) *Meta Deck guides (mulligan guides, replacement help, gameplay) *Tavern Brawl Guides
Feedback: https://www.reddit.com/r/hicardology/ This is version 1. I want the site to remain relevant as time goes on. I also want to improve the quality in general (better lighting / green screen setup, more on screen pop up tips, a few changes to beginner decklists, outro improvements are all on the radar currently). In order to do this, I'm going to need high quality feedback so I can focus on what's most important to you. If you think a particular video is lacking, have opinions on the style or have any ideas at all, post away. I have a pretty thick skin so be as brutal as you'd like. You can also post questions here to be answered on my stream. I'll be putting those Q&A sessions into Youtube videos for later review if you can't make the stream and don't want to scour the Twitch VOD for it.
Thanks for checking us out. See you in class :)
