Hi, my name is Darith Raine (aka dari ra) I play hearthstone daily. I'm a casual player and soon you'll find out why.
I want to talk about Rope Burning. You know that instance where your opponent or yourself take extremely long to play out your turn. Yeah that. I want to discuss that it is not always intentional.
Recently (november) I lost my job. Then following that i lost my home (January) Moved back home with mom in the mountains. I now rely on a cellphone tethered to my computer for my internet access. Which greatly restricts my ability to use the Internet. (no youtube, no imgur...etc) I did discover though that Hearthstone will run with my cellphone's connection.
So i play with a shitty connection.
When i'm playing occasionally my Signal will drop then pick back up. Which is fine for facebook and hearthpwn. How does this affect my hearthstone experience though? I often have to spend 35-40 seconds waiting on a "Disconnected attempting to reconnect" message.
What that means is some turns i miss altogether. I've played games where i missed 2 turns in a row and still managed to make a comeback. I'm not roping you because you're making me mad. I'm not doing it to have Bad Manners. I'm doing it because it is unavoidable for me at the current time.
Now i know that i am not the only one with connection issues. I also know that as the game grows people are connecting from around the world on different servers.
Recently i played a player with a name in all Asian Characters (jap, Korean, Chinese...you know asian letters). during this match I lost connection every turn. Did i do it on purpose? no. I still played out my turns that i could. I still said well played at the end. was that Bad Manners? No.
Let's look at some things and talk about bad manners itself. Saying Hello at the start of the match is actually good manners. Saying Hello every turn is not.
Saying well played at the end of a match is actually good manners. saying it every turn is not.
Playing out your hand when you have lethal is considered bad manners. However, on the other end of the spectrum, it is also considered proper etiquette in some games. Called Revealing your hand. I like when players do this when they beat me. It shows me what they had and if i wanted to make a similar deck gives me ideas for what to use. So to me that is not bad manners. If Hearthstone added a reveal hand option (like when the game ends hands were revealed.) i wouldn't bother with playing out my turn. As another point there's a rumor that says you get more exp for playing out as more cards. In reality i don't believe this is the case. I believe you get experience proportional to how many turns the match lasts and how many cards are used.
Moving on.
What should you do when you think someone is bming you? The best solution. Ignore it. If they're spamming emotes, squelch it. If their roping you. Be better than them and just kill them faster. If they want to reveal their hand, let them. Takes like 30 seconds. Trust me, nothing your doing is so significantly important that that 30 seconds harms you.
In reality, the solution is simple. Don't get mad. Period.
Oh and another note. For those people who add you to rage at you. Did you know the blizzard Battle.net Client has a report button? Did you know that it is a violation of the terms and service to add someone for the intent of harassing them?
All you have to do is alt-tab and use the Battle.net cilent's messenger to report them. Sure, hearthstone doesn't have a report button. However, Harassment via the battle.net client is still against the rules and the client handles all friends list chat options.
So next time someone rages on you, and adds you remember. You potentially could remove that player from all blizzard games by simply reporting it. More often than not it won't do anything, but if a player rages once they'll do it again maybe not to you, but if everyone started reporting them. They would become an issue for a different team at Blizzard's HQ. Which in turn would raise the flag of "hey, hearthstone should have their own report feature."
TL;DR
I have shitty internet, the rope burning isn't me bming you. it's me trying to play with shit internet. Don't get salty, just move on. I play in casual, not ranked.

Only time I let the rope burn intentionally is against mech mage, face hunter, or a similar player. Hoping to save some people aggravation by doing this. Longer it takes this game, less time they'll be bothering people in other games.
The rope burning may not be intentional bm but it's pretty tedious and a bit inconsiderate. If my connection were that poor I don't think I would regard hearthstone as a worthwhile activity, casual or not.
Didn't we have pretty much the same long winded thread the other day? ... sorry for your troubles, but really ... have a look through the forum before wasting time on what could/should have been just a response in one of the many other moan threads.

While it may be inconsiderate. I play on casual where there is no penalty for conceding. Which is me being considerate. Hearthstone is at the current time the only game i have that i can play. Regardless of being a worthwhile activity, it is a hobby i enjoy playing. Even with the occasional internet hiccup. I have just as much right to play as anyone else. Since i'm in casual, don't want to wait concede costs you nothing but the time previously invested, and besides odds are if i start burning on you, you'll get a "your opponent left" win shortly. Because if i miss one full turn i concede.
Here's how to avoid getting rope burned: • Get out of the lower ranks. • Stop playing Hunter.
You seem to be missing something. Since one this thread is not about how to avoid it or stating that you get roped burned. It is discussing that not everyone burning the rope is able to avoid burning it. To be honest i wish i could report people like you. You're a toxic member of our community. The entire discussion of this thread was me apologizing for rope burning but telling people how i had no means to avoid it. My unstable connection causes me to lose turns.

Its not a moan thread. It's an apology for burning the rope on others. All i want to do is raise awareness that not everyone burning the rope is a toxic member of community like the "face hunter better burn rope players"

You think the exact opponents you face will be on here? Otherwise it's very general ... and like I say, there's already at least one thread about the same thing down the first page.

its actually more like every 10th game now since my phone company updated the plan without extra charge. and its a lot less frustrating when you consider the only other game you have to play is mobile apps.
