I assume the former is more accurate, and the phrase "current standing" really just meant to refer to the current method for determining reset (i.e. highest rank of the season), but I'm wondering if anyone has seen any posts on reddit, twitter, etc. which clarify this difference.
is it the the current rank that we will have on the last day of march or for example if we have achieved rank 1 but dropped to rank 3, will we reset on rank 5 or 7. tnx
In the initial announcement, Blizzard used the phrase "current standing" several times to describe the new ranked reset (see https://news.blizzard.com/en-us/hearthstone/21469305/upcoming-ranked-play-update), and in the patch notes used the phrase "highest rank during the season" (see https://news.blizzard.com/en-us/hearthstone/21507224/hearthstone-update-10-2-february-6-ranked-play-update).

Your highest rank. If you hit 1 and then drop to 5...you get reset to 5, not 9.
