do you remember, back at Naxx/GvG what Blizz stated? They said the power level of powercreeps will be far less. Then they brought the Grand Tournament and obviously the tech cards beside the Mysteriou Challenger were all still from GvG.
After that the Standard rotation started and what happened? With every expansion the power level of decks simply grew. The worst thing: It does no longer effect only powercreeps, since then the whole power level of the decks grew that much that is is completely out of hand in my opinion.
Once those decks start rolling the snowball turns into an unstoppable avalanche.
It started with C'thun decks in the first seasons of the old gods expansion. It was an autplay deck that couldn't be stopped in most circumstances. Then we got the Aggro Shamans from LoE until Karazhan and Gadgetzan. Once you stopped their opener you probably won the match, but when it took one turn too long you couldn't do anything but lose. The pirate warrior had the same problem.
The worst snowball effect was the Jade archetype of course.
Now we have a diversity of decks, that is cool and enjoyable. I've seen so many different decks. And still can't enjoy this game anymore. The reason is simple.
Remember the times games could completely turn around? This is almost impossible now.
The only decks it's possible to turn around a game is probably against aggro decks that are out there. But all others decks currently in the meta, it's almost impossible to stop the snowball.
You have the Miracle Priests. The Divine Spirit/Inner Fire combo is unbeatable if correctly played. At least that is a reason the overall winrate is not that high as this deck is probably misplayed the most. I've seen so many people using their Divine Spirits the turn before they want to play the Inner Fire, easy to react to that.
Of course there is still the Jade Mechanic. The worst thing ever happened for me. People can misplay as much as they want because this is the most autoplayed deck. The powerlevel decreased overall since the last expansion, but if you're playing control you are fucked anyway.
We have Evolve Shamans. I've played many games myself with this decks. Even if you sometimes lose the board you are easily able to back it up and win without problems.
We have Taunt Warriors. Once the taunts are rolling the game is over. RNG afterwards.
Quest Rogue. Even though my winrate against those is pretty good as the deck is misplayed so hard because it is so "OP". But if you're facing a correctly playing guy once the quest is done the game is over.
Secret Mages. A lot of people glady play the worse version with ME that is far easier to beat. But the control version is once again insane and almost unstoppable. I just started climbing with it yesterday after I tried more fun decks and got frustrated way too fast. I've lost two games so far in 6 ranks (against Jade dumsbhits of course).
The only deck that can be really strong while still able to be defeated is probably the midrange hunter right now. Can snowball hard, but easier to counter and turnaround a good start.
So instead of decreasing the powerlevel of one strong deck they designed a snowball effect for almost every class (warlock just failed but think about the reaction from their quest at first, this could have snowballed pretty hard, too). Is this the way the design moves now?
Well, then....I need a good Magic online game. I can't be the only one that is unhappy with the design of Un'Goro. I know there are some streamers and pro Gamers who left the game now because of Gwent and that is a dangerous warning sign. But I just lost all hope for this cardgame.
