TCGs work very similarly to competitive Pokemon. The best players come up with top notch strategies and then everyone works to counter that build. Once the counter build becomes the new standard the same process repeats. It's a shifting metagame. Cookie cutter only lasts until someone bakes a cookie that kicks your cookies ass.
The problem I see happening in the future is one of the underplayed classes is really powerful and only a choice amount of players realizes it and abuses it. This will cause a flux in people playing this class then they nerf it to the ground. This is something that pretty much happens in every game, I guess I am just being hopeful that their balance team is good.
Maybe we'll see more variation in the builds if/once more cards are added to each class. And then there's always Blizzard balancing things as they see fit, for better or worse. So long as the nerfs don't start flying before suitable counters are found.
Still super early in it's beta life though, so it's a little early to jump the gun on true cookie cutter builds I think.
I have always hated using cookie-cutter decks. I just find them so boring since they have no 'theme'. They seem to have a counter to everything thus there's no risk involved and I find that is the most exciting part.
For example say I've a built a rush deck and I come across someone with huge board control and I get completely wiped. I'm a bit peeved but I play another match and my opponent just can't deal with my large force and I wipe them. So now I'm super pumped and decide to play one last game. However I find someone who's also using a rush deck. It's a long 40 minute match and it ends in a draw.
So I only won one match but I had a ton of fun nonetheless. That's why I feel cookie-cutter's won't be much of a problem. Obviously they will still be out there and they are nice starting points for new players but most players will come out with unique decks, even if there not completely original.

i think the major difference between hearthstone and other tcg's is that HS is more focused on a fast gameplays and shorter duration for each match.
30 cards is 2 copies limit is think is fine. If you change it to 40 cards, I feel like you have to change to 3 copies limit as well.
